Hey thank you so much for posting that last tutorial. Your lamps inspired me to build and since being away from tc for a minute I am back because of the lights. Any way, I made a drum style lamp a while back that I was very satisfied with and after seeing the pics in your tutorial I totally see how I could have been so much easier! Like ironing the braid for example. I am curious what tool is best for making precise cuts. I have a dremel that I use for making rings but it is bitch to cut through thick wood. Do you use a pivoting jig saw? Also is it necessary to pre drill holes for nailing down bamboo? Can't wait to finish this lamp that has been 2 years in the making. Cheers!!

Hey there gold zephyr... Welcome back. I use a series of saws for different tasks. Miter saw, jigsaw,
scroll saw, band saw, air tool saws, sawsalls, Dremel saws. Experimentation is the key to comfort,
so I've found. I could tell you one method using a certain saw that might annoy the hell out of you and cause
a dozen others to make the same errors. Ha! I say mess around and teach us
guys that have been at it for a while a thing or two! I love new inspiration and innovation! Good luck!

One of two lamps made of fish. One for a customer, and one in trade for one of Jaime's (Tiki501) outstanding lamps. Looking forward to that trade!

Thanks there, Jaime! Here it is, with its twin. Subtle differences, but pretty close. I need to write down the recipe for the colors one of these days so I can remember what the heck I did. Ha!

Déjà vu,
This light looks like the ideas I gave to Jamie with the colored glass trick.

Hard to get that kind of bright colors any other way.

Yep... Jamie and I have chatted about this style... but, at the same time,
I've been doing work with colored glass for years, Skip. Check the thread.

Sure I know you have.
But this is the idea I gave Jamie on how to color that glass.
Just did not know if you knew that Idea came from me.
Was not sure till he told me it was.
Small world right?
