Found these last Sunday:

An oil lamp.

Two oversized post cards. One from the Kon-Tiki Family Camping Resort, St Augustine Beach FL. The other from the Mai Kai.

Found these today:

Two Don Ho Suck 'Em Up rocks glasses (you can never have enough of these) and a Coco Joes tiki.

Old set of plaster souvenir tikis in their original (tattered) box. Bishop Museum?

Score! An unopened decanter of Ti-Toki liqueur! I know its more collectible sealed but I may have to imbibe in some of the Ti-Toki.

Today was a very good day, especially by Maine standards.

First, I got this bamboo display shelf at a yard sale for $1. It even has leather straps to add extra strength to it.

And two of the items on it I found at a Salvation Army and combined were $2.

An Orchids of Hawaii R-76 mug:

and an Orchids of Hawaii R-74 mug:

They are both marked as made in Japan, not Taiwan.

Finds from the previous month

Pair of Treasurecraft pineapple s&p shakers, a buck.
Small wooden tiki, 50 (I think)
Large wooden tiki, $7.99
WDW Polynesian Village frosted 2-face mug, $2.99
PMP bamboo mug, 99
Pair of Canadian-made Favor Ware plaster figures, $8.00

Also, this bowling shirt from The Sand Box, Waikiki, "Hawaii's Home of Country Western Music", which I may sell as it's just a touch too small for me.

Here's a Tiki Coffee Pot I found at a recent garage sale:

and the back:

There are no markings but it looks like Westwood. Anybody know anything of this??? Looked everywhere for another one but.... nothing. The lady at the garage sale asked if I found the cups that go with it. After looking at all the boxes and stuff again, I didn't of course. Uggh. Why do they dangle that carrot in front of your face. Maybe it's in that box of Tiki Mugs "that's around here somewhere."

Definitely a Westwood. You can see the green version on page 66 of Tiki Quest.

Match books from Trader Vic's at the Internat'l Market Place, and another from Trader Island in San Bernardino, CA (no longer in existance):

A book on the making of the movie South Pacific:

Besides photos of the actors and scenery, it also has some cute illustrations:

And some photos of large tikis:

Unfortunately the book doesn't say who carved them. The next time I go to Oceanic Arts, I'll ask if they did them.

Well, not too much lately but I did have a good day at a flea market in Vancouver today. Here are the goodies I found:

On the left is a Moai Statue made of heavy rock like material (I think it is quartz but am not sure). It's like those Aztec statues that you see but of the Easter Island style figures. ($5)

Beside that is a rare large green double faced Tiki mug that was made by Polynesian Pottery which was the company name before DAGA. ($10)

In the back middle, tall unmarked Tiki mug. You see these generic mugs with the Made in Japan stickers. ($1)

In front of that is the brown tiki mug that has "Original Kona Coffee Mill" on the back. ($2)

Nice Orchids of Hawaii R-12 small brown mug with handle. ($1)

A nice hand carved Tiki ash tray from the Monkey Pods gift shops of Hawaii. Never seen one like this before. Nicely carved and some pretty sharp teeth!! ($5)

Up front are a bunch of different stir sticks from some places like Trader Vic's, Seven Seas, and Beachcombers in Vancouver. (10 cents each!)

I haven't got this much from one place in quite a while! Happy Hunting!!!

I just found Taboo and Taboo 2 at the Sal Army for a buck each.

I've gotta start looking elsewhere, the San Diego Sal Army has opened a "Boutique" where they'll send their good stuff and sell it for higher prices, and they're raising their prices on everything else, too.

I've almost never found anything good at the SD Salvation Army stores (the only exception being a tiki tissue dispenser). It seems that there are so many stores in the county, they parcel stuff out to all of the various locations, which waters down the selection. The Boutique store on Sports Arena has some nice stuff, but I've never found Tiki there... nor in the Goodwill on Rosecrans.

Independent thrifts and the antique stores along Adams Ave. seem to be a bit better.

Woah, great finds Dan! Love that green mug. I had no idea you've been hunting for so long - I'd love to hear more about your collection some day! I think I missed chatting with you at the Waldorf event.

I'm also happy to see I'm not the only one with treasure craft up the ying yang. I think I just about have my weight in the stuff by now.

Hey Tikiwahine! Yeh, we kind of slipped by each other at the Waldorf event. We'll have to do some talking at the next Tiki event up here.
Good old Treasure Craft. I dont really buy that much anymore. I usually let it go to the next Tiki hunter. Although, I am keeping an eye out for the tall Tiki (Ku and Moai style) statues so let me know if you get any in the wild! See yah!

Freddie - Great score on that Taboo II album! That's a hard one to find. My copy's not in near as nice shape as yours.

Ookoo Lady - I've never heard of that Trader Island restaurant in San Bernardino. That's a really nice matchbook. I'll have to add it to my list of California tiki locations.

Sabu
