Hope all you dads out there had a happy father's day My family gave me a few goodies:

The t-shirt is cool, it's black with gloss black transfer images that form a skull/ tiki face. It's interesting because you don't notice it right away. They also got me a couple of cool pillows with a tiki-pattern barkscloth material on them for our outdoor butterfly chairs, the windchime hanging off the back of the chair (with a neat, albeit fake roped fishing float at the top) and the 'boo patio lights in front that will go over the tiki bar. We had a pool party yesterday and a couple of the guests brought the nice coconut mugs sitting to the left.

My camera doesn't like dark wood apparently. The awesome little tiki statue and wall shield are Bosko carvings. I also bought the puffer fish from him (will shortly be converted into a lamp) and the awesome Moai bowl. The 3 mugs are all from Tiki Farm and were birthday presents from the wifey

Didnt find much of anything, even after 6 thrift stores, just this little mug. No marking on the bottom, maybe it was a custom for an individual?

Those are from a souvenir shop, most likely somewhere in Hawaii. You can find them with all the most common English names with the Hawaiian translation. They also have them for mother, father, grandmother, etc. That's a cool find if your name is really Barbara!

Sunday was slow and void of tiki, but here are some of the items I found...

Treasure Craft "Hang Ten" with "Hawaii Tiki Isle" on the back and some hula girl and uke player cake toppers.

Hapa-Haole Hulas-The Kahauanu Lake Trio.

From The Start-Maile Aloha Singers.

Dreams of Old Hawaii-The Waiakea Hawaiians.

Hawaiian Country-Melveen Leed.

The Magic Ukulele of Roy Smeck.

Four 78 RPM records. Two Island Recording Studio with Singing Bamboo and Puamana on one and E Kuu Lei and Mele Hula on the other, 49th State Hawaii Record with Fireman Hula on one side and Manu O-O on the other and Wakiki Records with Lahela Kuu Pokii on one side and Hookipa Park Hula on the other.

Perhaps on of the most unusual finds I have come across is this October 1949 Profitable Hobbies magazine which features a cover with Eli Hedley and a story entitled "First Family of Beachcombing". The article has eight pictures and a couple of pages about Eli and his family and highlights the upcoming book by his daughter Marilyn to be published in Fall of 1950 "Daddy is a Beachcomber". Pretty cool, although no mention of tiki anywhere in the article.

That's all folks...

These are great finds PTD...I am curious about this style Marquesan Tiki since aquiring a wooden grouping of three of them a year or so ago. I think that what I found was a lamp base carved by Leroy at Oceanic Arts years ago. Any thoughts?

Swamp,

I wish I could be of more help to you. I am not familiar with much from Oceanic Arts, but maybe if you posted a picture, one of TC's experts could help and I wouldn't mind seeing it myself!

Picked these up on my way home from work. A couple of HIP figures & a neat little conch lamp.

I had a pretty fruitful trip to NoCal at the beginning of June, and was lucky enough to catch both the Alameda and Sacramento antique fairs. Lots of good stuff at both locales, but very pricey, so I had to pretend I was at a casino, and take only a fixed amount with me to spend. Most of what I bought was the usual Stockton Islander/Trader Dick's/Harvey's stuff that you can find pretty much everywhere in the Bay Area, but I was pretty jazzed to finally get a Tiki Bob's skull mug at a somewhat reasonable price.

L-R: Stockton Islander 3-face mug, Trader Dick's Moai, Tiki Bob's Skull mug, vintage Orchids R-72, small Harvey's Hula Girl bowl.

I don't wanna talk about all the cool stuff I had to pass up due to lack of funds, or shipping costs, and if I had a nickel for every Harvey's Sneaky Tiki and Hula Girl mug I passed up, I'd have....well, a lot of nickels.

I don't have a sneaky and always thought my collection wasn't complete without one (black or greeen). Wouldn't mind one if you wanted to send one, I would pay cost of course.

I don't have any extras in my collection, but next time I'm in the Bay Area, I'll pick one up for you. I saw at least one (usually more) in every antique mall I visited. Average price: $8.

MrBaliHai,

I am guessing you found the Tiki Bob's skull mugs in Alameda? Nice find! Also, did you see the guys selling all the Coco Joes stuff at the antique fair in Sacramento?

That's right, PTD. I got the skull mug in Alameda. That particular vendor had a few other nice rarities as well, but the skull pretty much blew my budget for the day, so I left them for someone with a bigger wallet.

I don't recall seeing anyone with a massive amount of CJ stuff in Sacramento, but the guy I bought the Hula Girl bowl from had a few nice pieces.

Next time you make it up our way, be sure to look us up! Always enjoy meeting TC'ers and aside from the skull mug, I could have given you the other stuff (maybe)! hah! Hope the guy with the bowl gave you a good price...seemed a little high to me!

I'm in the Bay Area a couple times a year for business, so I'll be sure to give you a shout the next time I'm in town.

The bowl had a hairline crack, so I got him to shave a couple of bucks off the price. Yeah, he seemed a little high to me too, and not just in terms of price...

Aloha PTD! I think Tiki Isle/Hana Isle were a separate company from Treasure Craft, same style though. I think they made bottle toppers for Hawaiian Distillers also...

PS, Nice finds as usual
