Yeah, about a hundred times and more. Funny that here the ceramic mug seems to have outnumbered the glasses--I never saw one of these either. What if the mug was cheaper (as an import) than the printed glass back then?

I have that glass too, I found it in Seattle a couple years ago. My thought that it might be later, the ceramic ones got too expensive, so they brought in the glass ones in the summer of 1980. Then John Birges came along...and kaboom! The only surviving glasses are these two that were smuggled out of the bar in Great Aunt Mabel's purse.

Yep, so I bought 9 of these things. This one one of those times, where you can't pass them up, but once you get home, it's like "What the hell did I buy these for?"

It's pretty much an oddly shaped, plastic pineapple. It doesn't open up. There are no holes to insert a straw. It doesn't light up.

It's just a bag of 9 objects that will take up space. I have no idea what to do with these. I usually give any tiki/hawaiian item I find (except some mugs and paper items) to my brother. Even he doesn't want these.

Oh well.

I love my wife, I love my wife, I love my wife who bought this shell for $5!

Bottle of Lemon Hart used for size comparison.

Scored this killer Tiki mug in a Vegas Salavation Army today!

I drove by it for weeks building Frankies Tiki Room back in

Nov. and never stopped in but thought, there's got to be Tiki in there. So, was back in town and had to stop this time and
Score city!! If I was only that lucky at the penny slots!

The "Hawaiian Air" tiki-tea cup is cool too! It's gonna go on my Hawaii vs. Poly Pop collection/ war diorama shelf!

p.s. that tapa thing was a real score from Goodwill in HB.

It was a particular board box wrapped in tapa and had canvas leaves of some sort on wire. Totally funky tiki!! But, now it's turning into a lamp and the canvas leaves are toast!

Everyone thinks it was a tissue box.

I'm thinking of making a few and selling them at Tiki Oasis.

Whadda ya'l think?

Some Easter Island head swizzle sticks(free with mugs off ebay) for my Tiki drinks...

And the best of all, my 1st tiki mugs...(ebay 10 for the 3)

Have been avoiding this certain thrift store because its one of those that looks up stuff on Ebay than prints out the auction and attaches it to the "vintage items" they have for sale to justify the price. They really annoys the piss outta me

Anyways....still manage to slide some stuff past them like these 3 items for ..ahem..$2.00. OMC hula girl mug with label on bottom. And I Don't own and have never found any of the Al Harrington glasses in the wild before so that made my day. When the store "manager" (a.k.a. Ebay nazi) asked me about them I said that I was having a luau and needed some tacky Hawaiian mugs for it. He said "yup, they sure are tacky". haha!

Welllll....you certainly have ONE book there that nobody else here has, and MANY are eagerly awaiting...!

And if anybody has doubted my recent ruminations on the diluting of the term "Tiki style", here is as fine an example as any:
The distinctive "Tiki style metal pressed tray".

"... as the term "Tiki" is becoming more widely used, and carelessly applied by the media for anything resembling generic tropical party fun (NOT an art form, or architectural and design style), the truly unique mid-century Tiki style (AND the Oceanic originals that inspired it!), are in danger of being forgotten. Calling all kind of things "Tiki" that stylistically are something else means a watering down of the style, eventually resulting in the loss of what made it so special in the first place."

...and:

"I do realize that I will not change what the general public will group together under their GENERIC term of "Tiki" nowadays, which includes everything from Hawaii, the tropics, and every grinning teeth image of whatever style. But I hold high hopes that here, on this board, there will survive a greater, more in-depth understanding of what Tiki Style is, and an ability to differentiate what it is not."

Do carry on now, folks.

PS.: I do not want to dampen your youthful Alice in Wonderland-enthusiasm, Miss Freek, merely to caution you, to hopefully make you stop and think here and there, and maybe even read some of the books you have there, ...especially those by that guy with that Scandinavian-sounding name.
