Nice velvets ..the both of you

In case you don't know ATP pointed out the following to me yesterday so I plan on reposting this comment above every Tiki Find entry from now until the end of time...

Seriously...why drag this crap into this forum too now? Did you really need a whole page of self-serving waffle for a pair of S+P shakers? You're trying to bait someone, who may or may not respond and thus turn this thread into yet another TC trainwreck. I'm sick of this tit-for-tat stuff that seems to be infesting various corners of TC...if this really is your favourite thread, why not keep it on topic, post awesome stuff with as much or little info as you care to share...and leave your conflicts with other members in the threads that started them?

Hey don't ruin the tiki finds thread by being a little complaining bitch.oh and I will do and post what I want.thanks!

I am not going to respond via PM as I'm really not interested in stooping to your level. If you feel justified in spoiling a perfectly good collecting thread with a gripe you've dragged halfway across the forums from a locked thread in "General", please post your reasoning here for everyone to see and do not PM me again. You seem to have a habit of personally attacking people on TC when you don't agree with their opinions.

Hey let's start a bit of a brag board where you can show what great finds you got on the weekend from yard sales, parents attics, junk shops, deals with the devil, etc....

Just to get things back on track, here is some stuff I picked up some time ago but never got around to posting. This is the leftover stock from a souvenir business that closed down in Auckland...6 of the wooden original carved masters and about 70 resins. The company was called "Bird Hill". I have no idea who the carver was, but the work is top shelf.

When I find the folder of the individual carvings, I'll post those too.

Anyways seems like people on TC are pretty out of their minds these days.....good luck
Paipo on whatever reason you are posting what you are posting as I am not sure of the reason.....

Screencap from my PM inbox...unfortunately TC's size and format limits have made it hard to read, so anyone who actually gives a shit can check out a full-size .png file here:
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/3783/lizg.png

I guess you'd better PM Hanford and tell him someone has stolen your password or hacked your account at 12:16. I had already brought it to his attention earlier anyway, so I guess he can decide if I am making this all up - the PM is still sitting in my inbox now.

From this point on, I am not going respond to you anymore in this thread or via PM as it has just gotten too weird for me. I already regret bringing it up at all, but let's face it - if we all sit idly by while good threads get shit on, TC wouldn't be worth visiting anymore. I also think when someone sends me an abusive message responding to something I have posted publicly (where I am prepared to stand by my opinion), the response should also be public. Moderation seems almost non-existent around here at present and it's a crying shame to see the amount of insults and abuse that have been flying around unchecked. Some people take this stuff way too seriously.
-Rhys

pre-post edit: please STOP PMing me. I am really not interested in anything more you have to say on this matter.

Don't worry man, just ignore the people that rub you the wrong way, it's all like high school clicks sometimes.

Anyway some Tiki finds I made yesterday. The 1963 Trader Vic's bowl is kinda neat.

Thanks Ernie,

They were on the fourth shelf down of a collectors case in an antique mall stuffed with S&P's. They were also turned around backward, all for $2. They hate Tiki in the south, they're evil! LOL

Thanks Paul...believe me, I'm done with it. It's nothing but cool stuff from here on in.

I spent some time working on this post last night but TC went down just before I could pull the trigger. Let's try again....

Take 2 -
Here is some stuff I picked up some time ago but never got around to posting. This is the leftover stock from a souvenir business that closed down in Auckland...6 original carved wood masters and about 70 resins. The company was called "Bird Hill".

Here are the masters - I have no way to be sure these were all carved by the same artist, but it is very much in the institutional/Rotorua style according to my local whakairo expert. The guy who sold me the pieces had little to offer on their history. I also asked about the molds, but they had perished so he threw them all out.

Little ashtray:

Big ashtray:

Tekoteko...this is the only one that is signed - it has a little "jesus fish" on the base ><>

It is very tempting to remove him from his slab, but I kind of like the detritus of all the molds that have been taken from the carving.

Big
Tuatara

About 12" long. See that pencil writing on the base board that says "Reduce to 220mm"?....

Little Tuatara...220mm long, and a pretty good replica of his big brother:

Last, but certainly not least - a Hei Tiki. The taratara a kae surface notching on this lil fella is mindblowingly tiny. I will probably take a mold from this at some point because I'd love to see one of these finished with paua eyes.

I have since disposed of many of the extras, and some have made their way to interesting locations:

I'd be keen to see examples of the resins I don't have (two ashtrays, hei tiki and lil tuatara) if anyone has found them in the wild....or any other "Bird Hill" products that are out there. I don't have any individual pics of the resins in the group and they are packed away right now, but if I dig them out I'll post 'em up.

I also have much more to share on the velvet I posted, but that will have to wait until I can access a scanner - I dropped my last one a couple of months ago.

Man those original carvings are awesome!

If you have extras of the tekoteko, I'd love to get one.

That is some great BIG items. Could totally make a room just from the demanding sizes and quality.

Hey Paipo, I have one of its children!

He looks like he's based on a Tene Waitere carving maybe?

It's a small world after all! Well, these were made to leave your country as mementos, so it fulfilled its purpose.
