Hey..gotta catch up here!
Thanks Amy, Aaron, Johnny, Benz, Finky, and Surfintiki, you are all helping me
push ahead on this guy.
This has turned into a massive sanding job, but I wanna do my VERY best to be
worthy of all of your comments. I am also spending a lot of time dealing with
the large crack down the middle. I used the crack as the starting point, between
the legs and feet, but the crack down the torso has been bothering me more than
usual. I used the multi-purpose "Great Stuff" to fill the biggest part of the
gap in the chest and base, with wood filler on top of the foam. I think it's
working.
Stay tuned friends...gotta get back to sanding the headdress

Yeah, that part is the worst! So you're hand sanding then? and given the wood filler, I guess this dude will be painted? Keep us posted!

Hey BigT....yea...quite a bit of hand sanding to do in the headdress. I've
used all the power sanding equipment at my disposal...but I still have areas
that I need to "hand-sand." Tiring work, hard on the fingers.

There will be some paint, but only minimal. Just on the front peak of the
headdress, where one of the "Conga Birds" will be perched.

Thanks for stopping by!

wow conga he sure is turning out wonderful. it's the little things - like hand sanding and polishing that make certain pieces stand out. can't wait to see what you have in store for his finish.

Hey thanks Big Daddy, don't want to keep you waiting, we have a little
update from a fun Sunday.

Basically spent the day on minor tweaks and stain, pretty
happy so far. Now I get to have a little fun with paint, just
a little bit.

Appreciate the comments BigDaddy, Watango and GMan, happy you stopped in
I think this is a keeper for me Big Daddy, working on a corner display that
I think will look pretty cool, but first we gotta get him oiled up.

GMan, what's happening my southern buddy, how goes the work on your
boatman?

WOW

Super cool - how the heck did you get all those color variations?? I see some come from the wood itself.... The crack along the front finished up nicely too. Looks great!

Thanks for the comps BigT, I think I just got a little lucky on the
color variations, at least there were no special tricks on my part.

This is my final little update till I get him slobbered up in a few
coats of tung oil...fun in birdland!

See ya soon with a finished Lono...thanks for peeking in.

Hey Conga, By the looks of this guy, you're spending a lot more time on carving than cruisin' on the bike! Glad to see you do this style. It's turning out great. What's next???
