Wow, great repair job. It seems like you would risk cracking it more since you are driving a wedge right into the crack. Did you have any problems like that? Looking good by the way!

Hello friends...
Gman...glad you like the face! He's either gonna be a unique tiki or a
"man in the moon." Either way...I'm sorta liking him too. Any progress on
your multiple-piece canoe figure?
Benz...you noticing a little attitude? Yes...trying to pull out the stops on
this one. I have to be careful to avoid stealing...a couple of your pieces
keep popping into my head...
Big T...many thanks. I should have posted some progress pics on the repair...
he looked really wierd with several chunks of basswood jutting out of his face.
Looked like he ran into a mirror and it stuck in his face:-)
I still have to do some repair under the chin and on the top of his head...I'll
post a couple of progress pics so you get the idea.

Hey Conga. No, no progress on the bow figure. Sorry. Too bad he didn't get to go on this year's lizard dance. He would have had fun. Maybe he will make it out with us next season.

Maybe you should come down and take his place on our next trip?

Many thanks GMan and Seeksurf, having fun with this guy. Sounds
like a fun invitation GMan, I'll practice perching on the front of
a canoe:-)
Winding down with this fella, just wanna show how I am fixing the
big crack that went from the top of the head down to the chest.
First...cut a chunk from scrap wood and taper it like a shim...
sizing it to the crack

Then slather some glue into the crack and push the shim into it

This shot shows the pieces glued into the chin and chest cracks

Once the glue sets I'll use the hook knife to whittle away the
excess filler wood, and a little sanding will finish the job.

Update...repair finished....progress.....

Long weekend coming up...looking forward to a lot of finishing work...
maybe starting something new. Thanks for visiting, come again.

Well....it's a beautiful Labor Day morning in Wisconsin. Best
wishes to all from the newest member of the Conga family.

As you can see, he's conjured up quite a little spell for himself

Many thanks Laojia...the family is getting pretty big. Think I gotta
send some of them out into the real world, to get a job or something!

Heath...I'm always tempted to fancy things up..but I think the simple
lines were alright this time.

Benz..funny guy. Thanks for "telling" me how to fix the crack so I could
"show" you how it's done. Quite the interesting post...and two of them
for that matter...you better get yourself to bed at night

Hey Conga, nice job! Once again great work with the paint. I like the repair work. Thanks for posting the progress pics. So do you like the wooden shims better than wood filler then? Hey did you notice ur guy is wearing lipstick?! Just sayin...

Hey Big T...thanks for visiting. I thought the wood fill project was really
easy...not much more difficult than "filler"...until I got to the last piece that
I had to put in. Then I got mad and yelled a little, just couldn't get the
final piece to fit.
As for the lipstick...I used a reference pic of a tribal shaman and he was
wearing a little gloss...so there you have it. I also think the bugger might
be a Sarah Palin fan...you know the "pit bull with lipstick."
