I have been avoiding this and hoping I could manage work out for both events, but it's either S.F. bar crawl or the train, and I think you know my answer.
Work sucks. Can't I just be a tiki bum.
Sorry about the cancellation.

I'm willing to bet that you can't burn Sterno on the train! Portable electric burner? Nah, just brink lots of starchy and dry things. More later!

Hey Hat-

Ask him if he knows Eli Hedley. Then tell him to call me. Bamboo Ben 714-960-1860. My Grandaddy did his place. Would love to talk story.

You probably can't even BRING it on the train (thank you, Homeland Security)!

A letter from Key Holidays arrived in my mail yesterday and I said "Oh boy! My tickets are here!" But when I opened the envelope it was just an ad for the Snow/Fun Train. Did anyone else get this?

I did. They just send it out every year to people on their mailing list. I think they said the tickets are sent out a couple weeks before the departure date.

Besides the places you mentioned,

6. Fishtank bar at Peppermill
7. John's Oyster Bar in the Nugget
8. The Liberty Belle Saloon - c. 1958 old west, gay 90s theme restaurant filled with old slot machines.
http://www.libertybellereno.com/restaurantpages/restaurant.html

Since we get in at 5:15 on Friday we might want to have dinner at the Nugget when we arrive. John's Oyster bar is a great choice on Friday, but the steakhouse is also very good if a bit pricey, or we could take our chances eating at Trader Dick's (avoid the Chinese food and it can be pretty good). We could drink at Trader Dick's as long as we want (but don't they close faily early, like 10 or 11?).

We could take a cab downtown for about $10-15 per cab either Friday or Saturday late - everything is open most of the night down there. There's nothing like the late-night scene at the downtown Nugget coffee shop. Awful awful burgers served by tweakers!

On Saturday maybe we could spend some time in the Peppermill during the day and eat at the Liberty Bell Saloon around 5 or 6 (they open at 5), and we could make it back to the Nugget in time to hit Trader Dick's again. The cab ride to the Peppermill and back should be reasonable cost if we pack it with people.

We should probably make reservations if we are going to all have dinner somewhere at the Nugget or the Liberty Belle.

My boss has taken the reno fun train. He is quite a drinker, like us. He said that after a WHOLE day of drinking on the train, by the time you hit Reno you're too sick/tired/woozy to do much of anything.

Knowing my propensity for getting sick at the slightest sign of overindulging in anything especially alcohol, I personally would be VERY hesitant to commit to post-train plans. (I am also worried about getting sick ON the train with no refuge to escape to but I worry a lot!)

That being said, I am intrigued by the Peppermill and it sounds like with their 14 different themed bars you can have an entire weekend of bar crawls without leaving the casino!

I'm really looking forward to this! I've not been to Reno before, and since you all have a better idea how to Do Reno Well, I'm gonna just tag along for the ride, if that's okay. Maybe we can rig up a little wheeled cart so y'all can haul my drunk ass around all weekend.

I'd have to be pretty drunk/woozy/queasy to not feel like hitting the town once I get to Reno at the end of the train ride. One day last March I got up at 1:30am PST, took a 6 hour plane flight home from Orlando, immediately hopped in my car to drive solo 6 hours to San Francisco, and then stayed up til 1am drinking Absinthe at the Foggy Grotto. I have the constitution of a concrete elephant.

Somebody bring that rickshaw!

Do we have to buy our drinks on the train, or can we bring our own?
