I would say the reason behind all the coverage is too simple - ratings demographics.
Advertisers want the 25-45 white audience to generate income from sales of commercials. People seem to like to see crimes committed by those of their own color.
That's why we get white attractive couple crime - they are trying to lure white young adult viewers.
The fact that she was charismatic and pregnant and that he was handsome, somewhat intelligent in his presentation, and hooked up with some side-tang was ratings gold. End of story.
You'll notice the story wasn't all over BET or the Spanish language channels.
It reminds me a little of Ray Caruth, the black football star who participated in the murder of his similarly black wife who was pregnant or had just had a baby - some news, but not a daily circus on CNN. You know why.
OJ, on the other hand, killed a pretty blonde white chick - now THAT'S interesting!
<Sarcasm, not intending that OJ was interesting.>
Anyways, they's just givin' us what we wants on TV.
