Shirtman - welcome aboard. You have a difficult task to top your first tiki!
Mooney - I try to get wet as often as possible. I have a special delivery for you - coming soon. I took your advice and dove right into carving that coconut. Its like carving an apple! I'll have some pics soon.

I'm getting some stuff ready for a show at the Bear and Bird Gallery (www.bearandbird.com) here in FTL. Its a show that focuses on small items that can fit the tightest budgets. The past week I have been finishing up several items for the show. Whatever doesn't make it in the show will be offered up in the Marketplace - just in time for the Huladays.

Not the best photos - but a good representation...

Carved in Walnut - 2.25"

Carved in Walnut - 3"

Carved in Walnut - 3"

Carved in Mahogany - 4.5"

I've been goofing around with some scraps of bone too...

Even more coming soon!!

Nice work AlohaStation, 'specially like the mahogany one. Can't
tell for sure from the pic but it looks like a cannibal fork...right?
Great ideas.

Conga - its too small for a fork, but I had the same thought. Hmmmmmmmmm....

BigT - Thanks for confirming that I need more practice with the bone. Its supposed to be a mahi-mahi (a.k.a. dorado, dolphin).

I have some stuff that will be shown at the Bear & Bird Gallery here in Fort Lauderdale. It is for their "Small Stuff 3" show that will be running from Nov 22 till Jan 9. Not necessarily a "tiki" show but still some great artwork for the cost-conscience collector. I have several items in the show along with some pieces for sale in Amanda's Collection. The Bear & Bird gallery is located in Tate's Comics, this year's Eisner Award winner for the Best Comic Shop in the Country!!

Also, to pump more shameless self-promotion, I have started a thread that I encourage all artists to join.
Hula-days Artisan Mini-Mall http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=34597&forum=12&0
This is a thread for all tiki artists to post a sell their wares. Please join me!!

Seeks - I wonder sometimes too? Spent last weekend surfing 4-5' glass. Even though I was pretty beat I had a creative burst! Started with the coconut my daughter found the week before. Even though the wood was extremely wet I had to sink some chisels into it. First i cut a log in half to aid in the drying - the sawdust was a wet, mushy mess. Carving it while it was so wet was like carving an apple. Here it is, still drying and just starting to crack. Hopefully the cracks will give it character.

I also picked up the matching scrap piece of mahogany and made another pendant...

Sorry - still bursting! Step back if you don't want to get any on you.

This will be part of the Small Stuff show at the Bear and Bird Gallery. I revisited an old Walnut piece and mounted it on a Oak board. I like the way this came out. it looks a bit auckward in the picture but is much better in person. Carving is 6" on a 12" board.
