Hey marcus,
Brilliant work yet again, look forward to seeing some of these tikis in the “flesh” somewhere soon. The progress pics are great – you should give us an insight into your tools and techniques as I’m sure it’s not just me who is interested in how you arrive at such awesome finished pieces.
Doing queensland proud!
Cheers,
Harro.

Here is the finished tiki - I took a pic of him with just the stain - then the final coat of lacquer. I hope you like!

Hey Harro - I popped in on Wayne tday - great shop! I have found that I get a good finish on my tikis when I use a nice deep stain - on the deeper cuts I torch them (blacken up the depth) and this shows up some cool textures and emphasises its features and can also make them look older. You are welcome to pop over and have a look at how I do it - just give me a little notice so I can sweep some chips outa the way for visitors. or I am happy to answer your questions on line here anytime. happy chippen - gotta get back to it.

this one turned out great marcus!
good onya for dropping into Wayne's - hope there is enough cool folk on the gold coast to keep an offbeat store like that afloat! (note for everyone else in Australia: Out of the Ordinary Homewares and Design Space at Nobby's Beach Gold Coast - my brothers shop - for all your retro/one-off/classic offbeat furniture/art/homewares etc etc!!!)
i really like the "old" look and the use of the torching - do you do this just with a butane torch from the hardware? is there sanding to be done after torching, or is it the last thing before staining/finishing?
would love to drop by one day!
cheers!

Wow Marcus, that came out looking great. I like the eyes, hands, chest, and chin/mouth. You have a great way of seeing/interpreting tiki that others don't. Your perceptions are clearly shown in your carvings. Great stuff!

Oh my I have a little tear in my eye - thanks for your kind kind words Congatiki, McTiki, Benzart (OK carving as fast as I can!) Gman, Aarons Akua,
Al's Tikis - the original wood shifter is still in my possession(probably keep him a little longer - I like him -but I am slowly filling the orders for the resin guys $60Aus dollars)
Harro and Gibgib - drop by anytime - but give me a little notice so I can sharpen some extra chisels for my elves..hehehehe
Harro - I sand after burning with the butane torch - nice plug for the shop..should get the place buzzing.
I am working on another tiki leaning against a malibu board - am chipping away and need to get him done real quick - going on a surfin safari with Von Weirdo at the end of the month.
