From the dusty thrift bins of Chicago IL and St. Cloud MN comes Jet Set Planet.

LISTEN NOW at
http://www.jetsetplanet.com
(just click the "Listen Now" button)

HIGHLIGHTS from Jet Set Planet - January 26th, 2009:

*A sloppy slew of LPs recently picked up at second hand shops in Chicago IL and St. Cloud MN. Mold Level: 5

*You thought there were only 24 hours in a day? Not so. Mariano and the Unbelievables will introduce us to the concept of the 25th hour.

*Bach meets El Mambo at Art Van Damme’s Cocktail party, and someone had the good sense to record their audio fidelic hook-up. Can two dead people meet at a cocktail party? And if so, do they smell bad?

*Flappers, Speakeasies, and Bathtub Gin – 3 of my favorite things

*The one-eyed Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. teaches us how to count.

PLUS Skitch Henderson, Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra, Peter Thomas’ Chariots of the Gods soundtrack, and Ferrante and Teicher's "Effect X." Eepkay ietquay aboutway effectway xay. Okay?

HIGHLIGHTS from Jet Set Planet - Feb 2, 2009

*A jack, a queen, a 5, a 7, and a deuce. You know what I got? That’s right: a Hullabaloo!

*A buck naked cowgirl sits on a conga, and shouts out Yippee Ole: Western Songs the Latin Way.

*What do you call a man who has everything, including a two-way wrist watch radio? You call him Richard Tracy, Esquire.

*The "Cocaine Years" of the 101 Strings.

*The one-eyed Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. This time Sammy tells us what's it like to be a cardboard clown.

"I think my brain has been rewired!" ~Jet Set Planet listener

HIGHLIGHTS from Feb 9th, 2009

*Lots of junk from sharity Blogs on tonight's show that you're gonna dig.

*Glen attends an Inaugural Ball in Stepford - a small hamlet outside our nation's capitol - and is confused by the somnolent behavior of the guests.

*The one-eyed Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. again this week. He's 3 for 3. This time Sammy Steps Out.

*The Yuggy Buggy is coming! The Yuggy Buggy is coming! And the Yuggy Buggy cometh for you!

*A treatise on Grass - and I'm not talking about a lecture from the Ace Hardware Man on how to make your lawn healthier. It's deeper than that, man.

*And a Super Set of Exotica, including Stanley Wilson's Pagan Love.

Mick9,

Good stuff is still out there, it's just a little more buried under the Wham records, and the Helen Reddy that's all. It can be a slog for sure, but fortuantely there's still some gold out there.

I'm going later today to a Goodwill outlet I haven't been to. I guess the deal is there's a long line of LPs for 25 cents each. You start on one end, and on the other end a guy is throwing them into a dumpster! No joke, that's what I've heard. Talk about having to move fast! I guess its the last stop before the incinerator.

Take care,

glen leslie (aka I, Zombie)

*We take a Stereo Action Holiday in a Hurry when we start the evening with Music for BANG, Baa-rOOM and Harp.

*Dick Dia plays a slow, soft, dreamy version of the Fugitive. Man I could fall in love with an ex-con that sounded like that!

*Loads of soundtracks in the 2nd half of the show -- some from comedies, some from crime films, but all with that Jet Set Planet sound.

*Tony Newley confirms what a son-of-a-bitch he is! (Includes the David Bowie reference I've been looking for!) From the LP "...Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?" I guess we'll find out.

HIGHLIGHTS from BOTH the March 2nd and March 9th shows below. It's like a two-for-one blue light special!

To LISTEN NOW go to

*Loads of CINE-MAGIC in both shows: Riz, Ennio, Stelvio, Leroy, Hugo plus many many more -- a UBER line up of soundtrack masters!

*The ULTIMATE and final(?) tribute to a bankrupt corporation: MUZAK. Come listen to MUZAK versions of bra burning, chevy driving , Bette Davis 3 days of the condor flying super songs from the 70s and 80s.

*"Visualize you arm as a long snake, one hand is a (giggle) head, the other its tail slithering behind. Now let's begin, up and down. Beautiful I can see it." - excerpt from "The Art of Belly Dancing"

*Soft-core sounds from north of the border when we sample a delightful psychedelic tune from the French Canadian feature The Initiation.

Back from Vegas with no records in tow! Damn. But wait, what do I see? A room full of records at KFAI -- the KFAI Record Sale staging room.

Ya-Hooooooo!!!

Highlights from 3/30/09 show:

*See why fellow KFAI DJ Bill Cottman is horrified by this program. Photos available at
http://www.kfai.org/node/18885

*A song about a mutant mouse with grafted on chicken wings! I'm not kidding you!

*Wes Montgomery and Jimmy Smith are the Dynamic Duo!

*I can't yell "Monkey Attack," but yelling "Shark,... Shark" is almost as much fun, as we offer an entire set dedicated to the Great White killer.

Check out the full playlist at http://www.kfai.org/node/18877 and give a LISTEN!

Enjoy

"It makes no sense." ~Jet Set Planet listener

Exciting News!

Tonight's show (April 20) features new CDs by Kava Kon and Chaino, brought to you by the good people at Dionysus Records. I think the official release date is April 23rd, so this is a real, bona fide exclusive!

I'll play a track or two off each tonight, and then they'll be in heavy rotation in the weeks to come. Both are really good!

LISTEN tonight live at 10:30pm CT at
http://www.kfai.org or in the archives 24/7 after the live broadcast at http://www.jetsetplanet.com (just push the "Listen Now" button). All shows are archived for up to two weeks.

Hope you can join us!

Mahalo
