Here is a small update on these two projects. Doesn't look like much of a change, but there is a couple hours into these.

Johnny,

Where were you hiding this update? Looking good! That hog hammer is looking stout! It looks much more robust than your first one. You bulking up to swing this sucka? The croc is looking great as always. It's tought to see what is going on with it in the pic, but I imagine you are refining the shape and cutting in the detail? Maybe you could post a few shots taken outside with some shaddowing from the sun so we can se betta? Thanks for the update Hamma!

Nice JP! Can you tell me a bit about what the faces are on the hammer? What do they represent? I've done some searches on the hammers and found quite a few pics, but nothing discussing why some have those faces and others are smooth. Do you have the answer? What are those faces???

Is this one of yours?
Nice progress shots JP. I can already see how you've improved the detail and depth on the faces from the last one you made. I have just recently come to realise how good remaking pieces can be for improving all aspects of carving.
What happened to all those roughed out slit gongs you posted a while back?

Hi, its been a while since I've posted, but I check in every day. I've been working a few projects. Here are two more PNG horns in the works and t slit gongs. They are all hollowed out and ready for the surface decoration carving.

Thanks for looking

JP

Yer drivin' me nuts with the slot crocs. Man is that cool! I'm gonna try to make another slot unit soon but this time with a 3/4 inch or less slot! Ugh.

The club's a beaut, too! Very nice. What's the wood? First class stuff.

G- from what I've read those faces represent ancestors.

Papio- That one wasn't mine but thanks for linking it. I saved the pics as reference. One of those drums is finished, just needs stain, the other needs a good sanding and some decorative carving, then it is done. The third one down is the croc horn I've been posting updates on. This weekend I'll work on it.

The wood is ash. Even the pighammer is ash. It is a lot bigger than a baseball bat, and weighs a lot more also.

Thanks guys for your continued support.

No Pighammer update this week, but I did get some time in on the horn. This is the third one down from the top in the picture in the previous post. I also stained the top drum but no pictures of it finished yet.

Lots more sanding to go on this one. It has a nice deep sound tone.

Thanks for looking

Johnny,

This horn is so killer....I can't stand it. I sent you a PM. Are you going to dig out the back of the teeth like you did in that canoe prow? Where is that prow anyway? If he is completed I sure would like to see some pics of it. Anyway, I have a special mission where I need to use a crocodilian horn and this one would be perfect for the task. Maybe we can come to an arrangement?
