Yeah H Cat it's all bout the lighting.
Did you get any of yours up?
Gap this is how those lights started out.
I think they are strainers. Not hats.
I found them at a flea market. Four 4 a buck.
Can't beat the price. I need more.
This is a book that will teach you how to work with rattan.
Bending, weaving, ECT.

Tiki Skip, your refurbishment and modifications are pretty cool. You say they look old, but you give them a fresh new look. I'm gonna have to keep you in mind for the finishing touches to my lounge. Awesome!

Tikiskip you've inspired me to try and make a few lamps.
I took your advice and collected a few cheap items laying around the house and at garage sales. Here is what I came up with.
I don't think I have more than $10 in materials for any one lamp.

Thats great LD! And thanks triple R.
Here are two things That will help you.
First, A mini torch. And Amber shellac. My wife got me this torch for xmas
and I have not used it in the kitchen yet. Its great for lamps though.
Practice on scrap wood/ bamboo. Just a light burn. Then shellac.
the last pic shows wangi bamboo. #1 no burn/ shelac. #2 just burn.
#3 just shelac. #4 burn And shellac perfect! See how the nodes pop.
Plus makes it look old.
The book pictured above is on Ebay right now. $11.00 And ends in one day.
I hope one of you gets it. it will help you a lot. Not my action.
Good luck.

Ok, Here we go from tiny to large.
On this one the hat was made by me from rattan.
The basket was a found object.
