You must be busy as hell with those new logs we picked up, man.......no news for three days? How is the dog, anyways? Did it have a nervous breakdown from separation anxiety?

A couple of sunsets:

I started out by cleaning off these four the day before we got those new ones:

So far, I was able to strip the three I had in my truck on thursday and the four skinny ones I went back and got on friday. Here they are:

I think that still leaves 11 at the stash spot? I might go grab 3 more bigger ones tomorrow morning...

This was the condition of my front yard for the last couple of days:

23 trashcans full of frond waste so far.

He sulked like this for days:

Sunday was anoter very special day at the House of Buzz:

Visiting artist day featuring CAMMO!

...working on the ZorMok mask.

Cam was guest carving...

...while guest dog Ringo looked on, totally mesmerized by Cammo's carving precision.

Later on, he chewed those logs into matcing Marquesan poles.

Cammo: I'm still compiling the rules of tiki...stay tuned.

Freddie: Nice mower...like that idea. Nice work view too. Looks like my house...reminds me, I need some exterior painting done.

Kate: since you proved it was tiki, I raised the price.

Kinny: Great tits!

Closetiki and Harro: Good luck in the next contest!

Seeksurf: It has to have a scope too!

Babalu: Are you in China?

My log supply isn't as low as it used to be!
Buzzy Out!

When I was a kid my uncle used to have a big black lab that would take a piece of wood about that big and just gnaw on it until it was completely gone. Something that size, about 2 feet long would be gone in a couple weeks. Never explored that much style though...

Black Labs are totally insane. The bigger, the crazier. My friend Rob had one that would fetch anything. Not just sticks, heavy stuff like rocks, logs, tires, he'd chase down anything we could heave and pull it back to us.

Once Rob experimented with his Lab's obsession, trying heavier and more impossible tasks. He actually phoned me and told me to come over and see. When I arrived, Rob took me to the side of a steep hill behind their house that overlooked a lake. He pushed the heaviest boulder he could find and we BOTH managed to throw it down the hill, where it plopped into the lake. His dog watched us.

Then Rob yelled "FETCH".

The dog looked like he was electrocuted. He tore down the side of the hill and dove into the water.

"What the f..." I asked Rob.

"Watch." he said.

The dog swam underwater came back up for air, ducked down again, going in circles. Then he disappeared for about a minute, appearing again at the shore dragging the boulder with his teeth. The dog then pulled it up the hill, he took about 20 minutes to do it. Finally he dragged it back to our feet.

It was maybe the most amazing athletic event I've ever watched.

By the way, Ringo is sooooo cute!

Ringo looks like a Muppet.......that needs a beer! I'm happy to hear that he didn't freak and split.

Like I mentioned in the chop thread, we have a picture and a plug for the Myspace page in this months "Street Rodder" magazine. Don't know if it's the Hotrod Surf event or the Prowlers car show. I'm going to find it today!

I also started another pendant:

This looks interesting.

Guns and knives...are you guys planning a re-enactment?

That was a great story Cammo....I have a black lab named Sammy the Wag...he's kinda like that.

Nice work Buzzy....you really are the Tiki Guy!

Today's sunset:

I finally got around to staining this guy:

Robin: We're planning a REVOLUTION! A TIKI GUY revolution, that is! Or, I'm going to be the mug sniper, bringing my special brand of tiki justice to the wild west.

Billy the Crud: as seen in Hot Rodder magazine! Now that you're a tiki celebrity, you can't come to the chops anymore. Sellout!

Cammo: The coolest thing I ever saw a lab do was rub his head in shit.

Flat black: When kiva was a puppy, she would chew through 1" x 8" x 6' fence planks and turn them into little woodchips. She'd start on one end and work her way down until it was gone. It was the funniest thing to see her dragging a six foot plank around the yard.

Supposed to rain...
Buzzy Out!

Sunset:

I finished carving and then stained this guy tonight:

He's 3.5 inches tall, seven eighths wide, and three eighths deep.

Back atcha, Ben. Was fun hanging out and checking out your shop. Got the damned 4runner smogged, too!
I'm going to use a hack-saw blade and do it on my porch! Did you get that rat yet?

Buzzy! I got us a fat chunk of Mahogany for pendants and stuff. Came from my pool lady of all places. I'll show it to you on Monday.

Here are some better light pictures of this guy:

It was windy enough to knock him down flat on his face while I was photoing, so he has some dust on him in these next pictures

Just have to dust him off and seal him now

I finished sanding the knife and stained it this weekend:

I think the wood is walnut. I stained the handle with special walnut. I figured, "How could I go wrong with walnut on walnut?" I stained the other part of the handle with golden oak. I wanted it to look like brass

Freshly sanded, the blade was way to bright. I did a test on the same wood type and figured using just poly would work just fine

Here it is with a couple coats of shellac:

In other Tiki news:
Guest artist day featuring Buzzard happened over the weekend.

He learned that there is no other planer better suited for the job than the Ryobi planer. I learned that I was out of dust masks...

For those of you who were busy this weekend:

It's that time of year again! The San Diego Crew Classic!!!!

When I first saw the tents, I got scared that they had PIFA and didn't tell me.

The start of the big race...

the winner took a commanding lead!

Congrats to all the participants of this fine event.

Thanks Mooney! We really got a good crew out here...except for Billy. He keeps trying to show me his "wood."

Billy: You got me the first time you tried your "Hey, check out my mahogany log" line. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice,....

I haven't really talked about how great my Ryobi planer is in a while.
It's great!
Buzzy Out!
