Good God this new stuff is excellent.

I feel pity for the shrunken head in "Frankies," which adds a dimension I almost never feel in art. And the piece is kill'r.

Knockout after knockout, my man. Real accomplishment. Damn.

Aloha Kennith!!

I absolutely wish I shared a studio with you! I don't have a single one of my pieces on my own walls..but hope to one day have one of yours!! I love all these latest...shrunken heads included!! I have to say..the one that really went to the "bone" with me was "wingin' it"!! I really like the burnt line in wood with the color washes....just a freaking wonderful feel...exotic and fun. Hope to see you soon at one of the events!! I am planning on your glasses being in the Smithsonian one day..so don't splatter em up with too much a dat paint!!!

HEY MATT!
Thanks Buddy!
Mother nature should take the credit for that texture, not me...
I just paint on it...And there is a method...tho,madness is only a small part of it!

Kahu!
Sometimes the one you just "wing" end up being able to channel the joyful part of painting...No exact destination, letting the colors just suggest themselves to you,it's always a bit exciting when stepping into the Wilderness...Especially after planning out most of the pieces-doing studies,etc..Sometimes just makin art with no pre-conceived expectations
can be a thrilling ride!I feel so blessed to have a 4-day a week job that allows me the luxury of a paycheck AND to be able to make art on my own terms
and not JUST to please an audience or patron....not that there's anything wrong with that, but it frees up the art ,and allows it to evolve with a minimum of outside interference!
Glad you can feel the Joy! I'm gonna slap on me happy face and see if i can do a series around this one...

Robb!
Oh painter of Darkness!

Moved to Pity?
Maybe...Unless this fellow was caught cheating at the Poker table. Then, you should feel a righteous sense of justice carried out....
Glad that piece could move ya!
Now g'wan!
Git!
Go paint some more and get off the computer!
GO!
NOW!

LOL-Mahalos my friend! Sometimes the happy and brainless ones shine....
BTW your drawing is on the way...Wife mailed it today! I am honored you would put aside some wall space for some LLT art!

Brad-Thanks Buddy! the Jungle Dance makes me as happy as a post from you or my other artist brothers!
It's that kind of joy! Jumpin Joy!
Now you get back to work too!

tikithomas-GRACIAS! Yes i do! I'll bring that and some others to share! Great timing! Once that Tiki magazine feature comes out,you can resell it for at least $5 over what you paid for it! See you at the Chop! I'm riding with the BigToe! I'll sell him to you real cheap! REAL CHEAP!

THOR's!
Thank you.
It's quite an honor to be able to interact with such genius!
Anytime you're in Orange, gimme a holler and you can come down and work there ANYTIME!!! Terrill and I have that little Grass Shack print of yours in the bedroom.i find myself looking at it every night before i go to sleep...
As for the studio....
It's filled with art because i have that bad habit of painting
more than i sell!
You don't seem to have that problem....
Your excursions into velvet, along with Robb's,TikiTony's and,Ms. Watts has really elevated the medium! truly AWE-INSPIRING! Robb gave me the skinny on the velvet,so keep your eyes peeled for some abstracts on velvet!
As for the "wingin it"...we all know the value of play when it comes to recharging the brain and art spirit... I'm discovering that sometimes a mistake can be a gateway to a true masterpiece! or at least a pleasant surprise! Did a small wood-burn last night..You gotta come down and I'll let you play!
As for the Smithsonian....they'll need a bigger display case,as there are 3 pairs of glasses i currently use...
My driving/everyday glasses..
my reading/making art glasses....
and the pair i wear at the studio that allows me to
paint and watch documentaries across the room!
Squid recommends bifocals..wise man....
You're gonna be at Damon's,right?
Can't wait to see what you bring!

Well, like i said, worked on a wood-burn last night!
Came home and i smelled like a campfire! mmmmmmm!
Here it is..
"Night and the Tiki" wood-burn and sepia ink tinting on wood
Savin this one for the Damon's event....

and here's some details/closeups....
still a long way to go before i find the pieces satisfying
but that's just "Divine Discontent" to quote Joan Miro!

that's it! Time to work!
Bye friends!

Awesome work LLT, the variety in your recent work hasnt resulted in a lesser quality at all. And such a variety of mediums as well!

one complaint though - catching up on your thread after a while takes too long and causes sensory overload and brain malfunction!!!

It arrived safe and sound. I wish that I had more wall space to set aside; maybe I'll remove the mirrors from the ceiling.

Outstanding woodburns (?). Ken, the fires of hell are clearly on your side, flowing from the end of your nuclear-tipped glow-in-the-dark BurnMax 2000! Burn. Burn away my friend. Burn us a path to freedom from the Old Ways.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY OVERCOME.....
BRRRRRBRRRRBURRRRRR!
Thank you ALL for showing such kindness
to such an Art-Tard! YAY!

TikiThomas-you never showed up at the CHOP!
Now you just get the TOE!
lucky you...

GOGO!
Thanks for the props pal!
haven't seen you and Dani in what feels like ages!
I miss BOTH of your smiles and warm happy friendship!
:):):)
As for being an Energizer bunny.....
I just don't wanna be sittin on my deathbed
cryin,"just 50 more paintings! just 50 more before i go!"
So i figgered...do as many as i can now!

harro!

Variety is le spice of life...
ruts are no fun!
Who wants to get in a rut?
"Not I",said the pig!
(waaaaay old stupid joke.can't even remember the rest of the joke
but that was the punchline! Bowana? joke help!)
Plus, there's just so many different mediums to try
and so many ways of looking at and interpreting objects,
landscapes, personalities
etc etc ad naseum
that it would be a crime!
a crime i tell you!
to not follow your art path
as far as you can go!
it's every artist's responsibility to do that!
don't get me started!
I feel the quality isn't up to my standards yet
but the audience is often more merciful than the creator
but ,the light is just over the horizon....
As for your complaint....
wah.
someday,when time allows
perhaps on my deathbed....
i will read all this from page one
and just smile at all the love and adventure !
but until then..
wah,my friend!

LOL!
Roland!
So glad that "the prayer" arrived safely with no feathers lost!
Spare the mirrors and simply affix it to the fridge with a magnet!
Thank you again! You've helped spread the orongo vibe southward!

Robb
I wanna rap-battle rant with you next time we hang....

Whaddafudge is that?
Sounds like some Omega man luddite thing to me!
and i checked out your website...
where's my Cadillac Eldorado
you don't wanna be on the bad end of a
Colwood Nuclear-tipped Glow-in-the-Dark BurnMeister 2000...
werd.
and yer waterfall is outtasight! red!red!

Anyways, did some backgrounds for the CHOP at Babalus
as well as a few backgrounds/pieces elaborating on a tapa/abstract style
developed when i was doing a lot of fabric prints at work and on the sly...

this first one vibrated with a warm beachy feel...
the waves lapping in
the volcano smoking
the semi transparent shields
i like how it leads my eyes
the beams of the sun hitting the water
and it was fun breaking up the land and volcano
and the windmill/propeller of the big palm
blowing a breeze to cool down the very hot day..
what a happy accident!

"Summer Shorebreak"
ink and colored pencil on paper

this one i sketched out in a sepia water-soluble pencil
AFTER the ink base had dried...
the shield on the left is nudging the middle fellow over
while the shield on the right is vigilant, watching him
ensuring his safety!
and the best part is that the middle guy
is actually a guardian as well
guarding that little disembodied head
thar below!
simple and sweet!
makes me smile!

"the Guardians"
ink and colored pencil on paper

Sometimes the fabric print styled ones
take on a life of their own
the elements seem to sing/or dance
or jump
might as well jump!
Anyways, the two bottomround sun-like elements
appear to be adding a loud vibrating outward
kind of feel
and those "tapa-bars" seem to be blocking off access
as well as invading the space of
the momma flowers and her little biddy babbies!:)
the one on the bottom right is cut-off
and obviously scared!
Ah! the beauty of the narrative that lies within a piece!

"the Commotion"
ink and colored pencil on paper

and my favorite of the session...
that's actually a sepia, not a black for the dark areas!
This colorway was fun..
the green and yellow background were exciting enough but...
i decided to try something that could throw the whole thing off!
the tip of the bleachpen was kinda glorpy that day
sometimes it just leaves a perfect bleach bubble on a line that
POPS and sprays over a part of the drawing...
Anyways-i flipped the pen over and used the scrubby side
and glorp! same thing-especially by the figure lower right...
after rinsing and doing the sepia brush and orange one
(it bled splendidly thru the bleached area
a different surface than the unbleached inked area..
Anyways,here it is!
decided to pay homage to Chagall and put an upside down fern up top!
and that's a sideways "hut/motif" mix...
The whole piece would fall apart if you took out just a few details
i feel like it's tenaciously floating over the paper surface
shouting to the villagers an alarm of some kind!

"Jungle Cry"
ink and colored pencil on paper

But wait!
there's more!
Also did this on a piece of wood that was slated for woodburning!
wood donations graciously accepted!
Anyway, did this morning piece in gouache
tried to get that same kind of "depth" of environment
in this one
Also wanted to cram a LOT of things into a little space and to make them work..
that hopefully explains my palm tree/plumeria overlap

the sun has a kind of Blast-off sequenced take-off
and the hut was fun
just to try to scrape it down to it's essentials
lots of hints of detail
but really not much..
huh?
"Morning" gouache on wood

next one is an acrylic on unprimed wood..
i layed the acrylic down all watered down and swoooosh!
parts of it started to soak in and spread!
AAAAAAAAh!
but after a little bit of figgerin out
it became friendly..
Last week i got home and smelled Corned beef!
and had to wait ,like 2-3 hours and just smelling it
and mmmmmmm! it drivin me nuts!
this is an expression of that!
"Thoughts of Dinner"acrylic on wood

Here's a detail!

and lastly..
another woodburned and ink tinted piece from the
Colwood Nuclear-tipped Glow-in-the-Dark BurnMeister 2000
onto a carving platter from my pal Squids!
Thanks Squids!
what's really cool about it is that it's full of hacks
and nicks and cuts
from countless slicings and dicings
of turkeys and beef and roast beast
for greedy little mouths
and foul smelling carnivore fingers
Ah!
Actually,it is filled with turkey and beef and roast beast MANA!
or not!
Anyways ,this piece called for two different tips
as you will see by the thick and thin lines in this one!
"the Warm Aloha" woodburn and ink on wood carving board

Here's a closeup of him waving hello or goodbye!:)

And remember
ALL THIS STUFF AND MORE can be YOURS at Damon's
on the 21st at the Tiki Magazine Release party!
Hope to see y'all there!

Cheerio!

All four of these latest are wonderful, but I have to say "The Guardians" does it for me.

Bold, balanced-but-not-symmetrical, traditional with a fresh accomplishment, little bit sly, and fun.

Everything I enjoy finding in a Ruzic work.

Go man, go.

SOK
