Clarita-Actually,Terrill was encouraging me to read and draw but i couldn't for some reason...

That's what I've meant to say. It was a joke about you having tons of energy, because if when you are painting a lot you still have a lot of energy to go around TC and stuff (at list compared to myself you are a tornado), you not painting for 4 days could be though to handle, that's what I imagine and was giggling about

ALOHA FRIENDS AND PSEUDO-FAMILY!
What a week since we've last chatted!
Got to go to a CHOP at HodadHanks
and made some progress with some pieces
and had some great chuckles all week!
Well, there's some fun stuff to share
so I'll be quick!

Jen, just been eyeballin that funnybunny
waiting til he speaks to my muse...
Can't keep him the way he is..
He says his skin feels like there's permanent lollipops and burrs in his fur
You can hear him crying late at night at the studio....
it's really sad...
BUT!!!!!!
I do have a can of GOOF-OFF
so he'll get a good cleaning up
and readymifying him for some bizarre end!

By the way, can i get some pix of those pendants?
you know the ones!
or at least a Brookfield Zoo wax cast?

Babs!
So great to see you at the Chop!
I knew you'd get a kick out of this fellow!
The Bunny fever is spreading!
I believe Joseph Beuys was into rabbits as well!
hm!

MadDog!
Great to see you on Sunday as well...
Beef Jerky Ice CREAM?
well, we all have our quirks..
You just seem to have more than most....
That's the fuel the MadDawg runs on,eh?!
Arrival of the Pineapple King
WAS the very first piece i posted...
Had painted other pieces before that in the same theme
but that was the first..
Glad it's going to a proper home
instead of my rathole studio...

Snif!
More Squid Warz a little further down....

TJP!
AHHHHHHHHN-DEE!
You kids deserve it!
Luvin yew!
Here's to OctoberMESSED!

Kiki!-Thanks toots!
If it makes their imaginations take off-all the better!

mp-
Shucks thanks main..
SQWAREBOB!
Quit slobberin here and get YOUR KURRGO Master of Planet X Brain
back to workin up some more Clay Wonderness!
You are on a ROLL!
oh yeah! quit slackin on that PNG piece.......you..you,,,,slacker!

Clarita-
Actually, most of that energy was spent walking around the ship
and up and down stairs ..
i DID Bust Out of that ArtFunk since Oasis
right after the cruise..
Maybe the brain needs a break
just to absorb
and unconsciously sort out
backlogged information....
Anyways, Thank you dear, for always bringing a smile to this
and all the other threads you visit!

and MAHALOS to all of you who pop on by and see the latest offerings!
I can feel your eyes burning a hole in me brain!
Right ON the pineal gland!
sssssssssssssssss!

First Offering..
a take on the MaiKai Cannibals...
Inspired by TikiKate's Awesome Cannibal thread in "Collecting"
Go Kate! Lovely to see YOU on Sunday as well!

"Moai Kai"
Tissue Paper stain, ink and pencil on Cold Press watercolor paper (the rough textured kind)

Hunter

Catcher

Ingestor

This next piece also channels a moody memory from the Mai Kai in Florida
More of a feeling, than literal depiction..
a mood piece!
it started as a study of two angles of a beautiful Kava bowl
and grew into a piece torn between MANY worlds
a stained glass abstract world
a semi-cartoony realism place
and a dreamy hazy memory
of a magical place..

"After hours"
Tissue Paper stain, ink and pencil on Cold Press watercolor paper (the rough stuff!)
Please excuse the glare on parts of the black
it was photogged it in an obnoxious light

Here's the DEETs!

The "tapa line" cuts thru the whole piece
and also succeeds in establishing two worlds/points-of-view to the bowls
stoked!

Wonder what's sloshing in that craaaaaazy bowl?

love this guy's expression!
like he's getting the short end of the stick
when it comes to hauling this bigazz bowl around!

And....
more progress on
"Night of the Falling Stars"

almost there,kiddles!
YEEEe-e!

Just layering washes in already established areas
while slowly building up and adding new elements..
over and over again.....

This fellow feels an urge to slink up the island hill!

A stoic and reverent Chief
amongst all the other frantic fools!
Is it a Giant menace or a Sea God returned?

Here's an Ultra Close-up
Stars falling from the Sky!

You can see the water soluble pencil lightly sketched and awaiting development...

Welpers...that's it!
Time to relax and go rest the ol' eyes from computer fuzz mind control light!
Have a good night Ohana
and Thanks fer visitin!

Gecko is really the only other guy to tackle that Hawaiian guy before. Very sweet in that style.

I don't know what to say, Mr. Ruzic.

It's been said before regarding your imaginative style and grace with da paper and color and ink executed by your hand.

Allow me to say this: Thank You

Thanks for the HOLY CRAP,Heath!
This looks like a theme/style i may wrassle with more!

SkinnyDog-glad they make you giggle,Jen!
you've got a great giggle!

teaKs-there must be some OTHER artists who've tackled this theme ...
A few years back
i had played around with "travelling throne " concepts
and this bowl kinda fit into that category..
Why get up and grab that kava bowl
when it can simply saunter over on it's own?
Glad you like it..mahalos!

TikiG-no,sir...thank YOU!
shucks! Now i's blushing!

This is looking amazing, attack of the giant squids. A theme close to my heart. Thanks [as always] for all the great 'how it's made' photos.

Hey Kinny!Love that tapa waterline and undersea light rays! Verrrrry coool you crafty little fella.

Remmber last week we were chopping @ the lagoon and that giant devil squid attacked us and ate my foot? Jeepers! Thank god Bill brought his chainsaw or we'd all be gonners. I won't turn my back on that lagoon again no matter how cool Toe's sketchbook is.

One liner you: [

b]I can't get enough of this minimalism![/b]

Zing! Is this thing on?

Ken, you have surpassed the old masters and have drifted into a new realm so far away distance no longer has meaning. You are now in a closed universe in the land beyond beyond. There is no way to return, but I imagine you are at peace with this isolation/trail blazing.

'After hours' it's so inspiring, there's something about it I really love, the action, the drama, the colors, the composition. i don't know, but I think it's great!
and 'Night of the Falling Stars' too, i like very much what it's going on on both of them, the way you are thinking.

Well.... Got a bunch o stuff to share on this lovely Monday mornin....
So i'll be brief....

tikiracer!
Thanks mate!
Something about giant Squids.....
and Octopi...
and Puffer Fish....
that stokes the imagination!
Glad you get something out of these step-by-steps...
i wish i could have you all over again for a massive ARTJAM!
it's been too long....

TravelingJonesy-
Mahalos for the unabashed enthusiasm!
Glad you enjoy it!
Always trying to push the edges out a little...
FINALLY got this puppy finished (sans "fine-tuning)
so scroll below and cheggitout,my friend!

hankee!
i remember!
Too bad we forgot to click some photos of the Kraken..
Nobody will ever believe it!
and beware of the Curse of the Unlucky BigToe Sketchbook!
it's claimed more lives than most felons!!!!

Robb-Blah! Blah! Blah! back to you!
Now pipe down with the embarrassing platitudes
and whip out some more ebony velvety goodness!

Clarita-Thanks my dear!
I guess that one was a hit....cause it's now readying itself
to live in a mystery patron's home! yay!
We think alike,Clarita...
i think many artists do
it's just that their hands
makes the results look different!

Onto the ShEW.folks!
First off....
"Night of the Falling Stars" is pretty much finished
(asides from some fine-tuning here and there...)
with the sides painted and it awaiting some wire hanging stuff on the back...
here it is in all it's 24x36" glory.....

Here's some final close-ups,where you can see where i added some slight tinting in the suckers and a few other areas,as well as deepened some shadows and brought out some highlights
to help the "carved" illusion read better!

the floor of the sea...

tentacles piercing the surface
and a desperate rower calling for help!

this fellow chasing a poor Islander up the hill....

here's some of the background village and hills...

the stars falling out of the Night sky....
Are they heralds of the Squid's arrival
or merely onlookers?

What Polynesian inspired painting DOESn't have a volcano!?!?!?

The strange ceremony between chief and cephalopod...
it appears the chief has taken his servant's spear
and is conversing with the beast....
hmmmm

Tips Ahoy!
and a tentacled victim struggling to get free...

Sea bottom..

Think I'll keep this around the studio for a few days
and enjoy it
before sending it off to it's new home....

Next offering is actually gonna be for the TIKOT-the Tiki themed Tarot show
at hodadhank's Freaky Boutiki gallery next month...
he asked me to do a Death card (seeing as it's the most iconic)
and i was gonna do a collage, but got inspired by this
olde-timey Frenchy tarot card..

where it pictures him as the REAPER!
harvesting heads from across class lines...

Well, here's my offering for the invitation....

PNG and MARQUESAN skullheads...

a Maori skullish head....

and a skeletal Moai!
i likee!

and a feathered cloak and helmet for the Hawaiian chief skeleton....

Now all i gotta do is pick a font and set up the invite!
YAY!

I'm gonna sepia-tint this before framing,so stay tuned!

and for the last entry...
in above mentioned TikiTarot show
the Last Judgement card was picked for yours truly!

How appropriate is that?
Well, a few years back, decided to tackle a 5x5 foot Last Judgement piece
because it's a genre that not enough great artists have tackled....

Well, this Judgement was more of a nod to the Rider-Waite tarot cards and other
versions of this card....

So, this time,it was a MAORI approach to this time-honored "Day of Reckoning"

Instead of being raised from their graves
instead they are rising from small pools of water
like resurrected Venuses..

here is the middle figure..
inspired by an object found in a book about 1690-1790 polynesian artifacts....

this fellow on the right is still a little wobbly..

and here's the Angel meant to replace Michael in the original card.....

I love the arrangement of his arms as they hold the trumpet....

Well, that's it for now,friends!
have a Great Day!
