I am not even a huge Witco lover...mostly dig the wall hangings ..but I REALLY love this piece Tiki David. Is the monkey attached to the guy or is it two seperate pieces? Also where did something like this come from? Was it owned privately or in a restaurant/store? I know you have Witco radar so it doesnt surprise me you found this..I just wonder where it was. Its just not something you see everyday Witco related.

this piece is very weathered. but I can still see a hint of some of the colors that used on it ,like the monkey's fezz, and pants were red.their jackets were aqua. and I do not know what else.
does anybody have one in better shape, color wise or a cat. pic for color matches? so i can restore to the prop. colors, thanks TD

here's another piece from my witco score a few weeks back....i was gonna keep it and turn it into a lamp, as it used to be a wall clock but the face was broken and did not come with this piece. (the owner threw it away long ago after they broke it).....i was thinkin of putting one of those chunky lucite lamp spheres in it or maybe a spagetti lamp globe...make it a swag lamp. or possibly put a clear globe in and make a fake fishtank lamp out of it....
regardless....it goes on ebay as is cause i know some tiki purist out there might want it in it's original state..if it doesn't sell. maybe i'll make the lamp out of it....

It's a bit small to really see the grain, but I would say it's not Witco, the lines are too flowing. It could be very early Witco, when they didn't use their trademark swamp cedar wood and had not found their style yet, but I doubt it. In general, Dolphin imagery is post-Tiki fern bar stuff.

It is hard to say if the piece is a Witco from the picture shown the frame looks it. But Sven is correct the line flow is a little much and the orange bar is making it look Witco-ish by association.
Having said that they (Witco) did do dolphins they had some at the Leilani Lanes in Seattle. We went by 10-12 years ago and asked where all the (Tiki) carvings (they had recently remodeled) had gone. A surly employee took us to the back room where they were storing "them". Them being a pile of Witco style dolphins stacked against the wall and they were keeping "them" for their conference room. Unfortunately no Tiki's there, which led to my asking a bunch of odd questions which she couldn't answer/understand and we were shown the door.
So you see Sven there must have been a period of transition (stylistically speaking) from Tiki to fern bar and dolphins must have been the overlap carving that got establishments though that awkward phase.
I did manage to find a Hawaiian Village mug at a thrift around the corner so the afternoon wasn't a total waste.

I know Witco did Dolphins, and I know they did other, worse stuff that would have fit just beautifully into any fern bar, because they manufactured well into the 70s --the age of the dolphin. I was trying to hint at the fact that dolphins are not exactly Tiki room material. Notwithstanding that the above piece might even be from the 60s, the dolphin became a New Age icon in the 70s, so that is what the poor beast will be associated with henceforth.
