Bummed I couldn't make it last night- Casa and Lakeside are two of my favorite places on the planet!

Wanted to give you all a heads up that I give tours at Stranahans every Saturday - they're free and it'd be fun to see some of you all come through! Sign up at stranahans.com

Also I'm making a jar of real marachino cherries with Luxardo liqueur and on Memorial Day i'm busting them out about noon for a day of Manhattans! I've got a few whiskeys and burbons to try friends are bringing more and at the suggestion of Ian Burrell of Cotton's in London who was out here for a rum seminar last week- rum Manhattans!

I'll have the grill on all day, hope to see you all!

-Michelle

Hah... that's funny. My wife and I were sitting at the Rackhouse bar the Saturday before last when folks were starting to show up for the Stranahan's tour. I made the sad face at her and said, "I wanna go".
Maybe next week.
She and I had hot tastes out of the very first barrel, when it was being aged in that room next door to Flying Dog. This would have been during GABF in '05, when we were living in Kansas. It's much smoother now in the bottle!
I keep trying to get in on a bottling session, too... but so far haven't been quick enough. I'm sure I'll get in at some point, though. Looking forward to that!

Hey all of you mixologists -

Anyone have a suggestion for a top-notch citrus press/juicer?

Is manual better than electric?

Any brand suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The hand squeezy should be fine for most of what you need. Get the big orange one so you can do limes, lemons, and smaller juice oranges.
You'll have to do something else for the grapefruit, though. I hand squoze them for a long time, before coming across this awesome juicer in a thrift store in Redding, CA:

I looooove my Juice-O-Mat.

I will have to admit I am old fashion and juice by hand. I remember squeezing lemons for hours growing up to have home made lemonade. We had a lemon tree that was very bountiful. I miss those days.

Thanks all - these are great suggestions!

I too have been drooling over some vintage Juice-O-Mats on eBay. They are retro-tastic.
There's also some at TJ Maxx of all places, and they're cheap as hell - $12 each (they resemble the Metrokane models).
But cheap usually means broken in 2 hours, so I'm a little wary.

Hey Denver Tiki folks- On Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27 is the Cherry Blossom Festival at Sakura Square in downtown Denver. Joyce and I will be there on Saturday and will be participating in the Bon Odori dance on Saturday night at 7 PM. The event is fun, family friendly and the dancing in the street is not to be missed. It would be great to see some of you at the event. Here is the website for the event: http://www.tsdbt.org/cherryblossom/

That'd be fun Matterhorn...we'll try and make it.
My kids and I love the grocery store, (although its so much more than a grocery store) on the east side of the buiding. I think its called the Pacific marketplace...we easily spend 30 minutes in there just looking around at the amazing selction and another 30 minutes just trying to figure out what some food even is.
Any group of sultry vixens that may be considering opening a tiki bar may want to check it out for those hard to find true asian items.

Dang it... I wanted to go to that and totally forgot about it.
Sounded like it was pretty groovy.
Next year.
