Aloha Tiki Tribe,

I worked out some of the lighting with raw umber and black. Or as
my old art teacher used to say, "Made a right and proper mess of it."

i had to sing that "Senor Don Gato" song for a HUGE crowd when i was 6-7 back in Illinois in elementary school!

Oh Senor Don Gato was a Cat
On the high red roof
Don Gato sat
he was there to read a letter
Meow Meow Meow
where the reading light was better
Meow Meow Meow
twas a love note for Don Gato!

wow....Major flashback!
why is my brain retaining that inane song?

just came back to look at your kitty again...
looks even better the second time...

Almost forgot...
Congrats on the SHAGPILE coverage!
Stoked more people are finally noticing your awesome work!

Sneakytiki~ Thanks!
Kenny~ Thanks! Oh yeah.. I remember that song...
I found this online, (seems a lot more gory than I remember it though!)

Oh, Senor Don Gato was a cat.
On a high, red, roof Don Gato sat.
He was there to read a letter, Meow, Meow, Meow
Where the reading light was better Meow, Meow, Meow.
Twas a love note for Don Gato.

?I adore you,? wrote the lady cat
Who was fluffy white and nice and fat.
There was not a sweeter kitty, Meow, Meow, Meow
In the country or the city, Meow, Meow, Meow.
And she said she?d wed Don Gato.

Oh, Don Gato jumped so happily!
Then fell off the roof and broke his knee,
Broke his ribs and all his whiskers, Meow, Meow, Meow
And his little Solar plexus, Meow, Meow, Meow.
?Aye Carumba!? cried Don Gato.

Oh, the doctors they came on the run
Just to see if something could be done.
And they held a consultation, Meow, Meow, Meow
About how to save their patient, Meow, Meow, Meow.
How to save Senior Don Gato.

But in spite of everything they tried,
Poor Senor Don Gato up and died.
Oh, it wasn?t very merry, Meow, Meow, Meow

Going to the cemetery, Meow, Meow, Meow
For the ending of Don Gato.

As the funeral passed the market square,
Such a smell of fish was in the air!
As the smell of fish created, Meow, Meow, Meow,
He became reanimated, Meow, Meow, Meow!
He came back to life, Don Gato!

(So it'a song about a zombie cat?!)

layed in some colors on the sunset. And some flying saucer clouds!

If anyone wondered about the mention I got on SHAG-pile, you cna find it here
... take a look at

ALOHA!

kroozzn62~ Big Mahalo, (and I hope you're right!)

I still worked on the sky and clouds last night. I'm learning more about layering in semi transparent layers of acyclic. I want a nice soft hazy look to the sky and clouds. So, I've been mixing my paint with more glazing medium instead of water. I think it's starting to get there.

Big Aloha from the Big Island!

Rockin' composition - lots to look at.

I really like the large size of the cat's eyes and their oval shape - different style than I've seen before, and I've looked at multitudes of books featuring cats styled for young people.

I think the youthful quality of the last two paintings is a very nice and fresh new facet to your tiki work. There is no guessing what you may do next!

Aloha tiki Tribe,
Robb~ Hey, thanks Robb. Yeah, the last two paintings have a very specific composition on common. I don't think artists should over explain their work, because looking at it SHOULD explain everything the viewer needs to enjoy (or hate) it. However, since it's you, I'll prattle off a little bit. I had this idea that I wanted the aumakuas (tiki creatures/animal-nature spirits) depicted to have that currently popular pop surrealistic toy quality. To be a very specific object resting on a very specific spot, at a very specific time. I think it started with the idea that the Menehunes come out at night. Evening, sunset exactly, the supernatural creatures in Hawaii issue forth. Also, evening is traditionally when the drinking starts. And the consumption of tropical drinks helps one to more clearly see that which is invisible to the normal (sober) eye during the day.
In short: heavy drinking at night may cause you to see some strange shit in Hawaii.
or...
"Welcome to the Mai Tai light Zone".

Still smoothing out the damn clouds, and starting the jungle.

Big Aloha from the Big Island!
B~

Wow! I've always wanted to do a Tiki/Cat painting.
I really like the concept.
Looking forward to seeing this one finished.
