Michell had sent me a reply to my e-mail askign why they were closing.
She siad its time to let it go, and she wants to make a more standard form loungy lounge, what ever that means.

OK. Now does anybody know WHY the great Lava Lounge is closing? Will the lovely and talented Michelle be relocating somewhere else? Will she change the LL space into something other than Lava Loungey? Or is the space going to be turned into some kind of Armenian market or trinket shop?

I learned the scoop tonight. New partner, although the same owner(s) will remain, as related to me. The venue will remain a bar, but a new Pacific Northwest theme. Apparently, another BigFoot.

No more live music, either.

All the old staff will go, which seems unnecessary, particularly given their good looking, if not studied retro, appearance.

Anybody go last night ?
It was...
Amazing.
Packed.
Crazy
Girls Dancing on the bar
Like the Sunday nights used to be back in the day.
They played everything, some of it a little rusty, but it added to the fun.
The were on fire most of the time tho'. Pure Genius.

I think the owners are making a bad decision changing the Lava.
After 13 years of wear and tear the place really looked and felt like a classic Tiki Lounge that had been around since the 50's.
I think they did it perfectly...the decor, the bar, everything.
I can't believe it's over.
Why don't people know when to leave well enough alone?
Maybe they weren't pulling the numbers they used to, but every time I've been there they have people in the place.
I even played there once, and it was slow, but still there was a crowd.
At least i got to enjoy it before it turned into another stupid Hollywood hipster bar for people too young and clueless to know any better.
Where are the Blue Hawaiians going to play when they come out of the woodwork every few months if not the Lava ?

Oh well...it was a great night.
If anyone in here went and took pics (I stupidly forgot my camera) , please post them in here.

Lava Lounge R.I.P

Hopefully we can help the BH's find a new home.

wish the Tiki Ti was a bit bigger and could have live music.

I got there at 4 this afternoon and the place had been picked clean. There were a few cool lamps over the bar, but the gal said she had to get some kind of technician to remove them. Oh well...
