G - I will go back and look for Benz tongues. I have the real-estate up top
but the mouth area behind the tongue is not there. Many Thanks im looking
into it more.

FreddieBallsomic - For sure the ends tried to go with the grain and chip
the ends. Then i saw the bottom of the headdress and how thin it gets and
said hum I'm gonna have to taper them down. Great learning for me.

Robin - More tongue! seems you learned about longer green tongues earlier than
I.

hewey - Right on! thanks. hewey lets trade Continent's for a while I need some
Rightous Surf Time.

Benjamin - Many thanks my friend We need a update from you? You been playing
with those big logs?

hiltiki - thanks for checking him out.

G - Right On! Ok I'M looking and thinking.
No meat on the side but I could round it more like
benz in the front. Last week I spent a good 30 min thinking on
the mouth and tongue and chose to hollow it out, next
tiki will have a proper tongue.

Thanks for time and effort G

Yes well, those Maori tongues are pretty compelling....serious business in NZ. Your carving is just beautiful, and rounding that tongue IMHO will be the perfect solution.
Are these really your first carvings?

As a sidebar...in Tibet, they stick their tongues out at first meeting to show you that their tongues are NOT green...that they're not the devil (who has a green tongue), but a friend. And you're supposed to do it back for the same reason. It could make for a tricky cross cultural experience.

Robin - Mahalo. I love the Tibet tongue story. I need
to get going on the study of Oceanic art and culture.

Yes, these really are my first carvings glad you like.

ben - Mahalo I think you just saw a cleaner side?

I'm think I'm done. I'm looking and testing stains on him.
Mahalo every body on TC for keeping me stoked to carve.

I can see you are done sanding, it is as smooth as a babies bottom. I'd like to see all the other carvings you did to get to this state of perfection.

I'm very impressed with your work my friend.
How did you sand it in the sneaky parts ? With an angle grinder ?
What stain will you put?

Nice work,

Benjamin.
