Here's some of the places we crossed of the list yesterday:
Fantasy Island - Salem - Must have been good once. Looks like it's just been remodeled. Only a few Orchids lamps and couple of bamboo chairs survived. Oh and my drink was alcohol-free. Next!
The Tiki House-Waltham -Takeout only. No tiki. Next!
The Tiki Garden - Abington- That's right, Abington. Sully's standing outisde 'cuz the place doesn't 'til 4:00.... Could be a paradise inside. Probably not.
Golden Pacific -(I think it was in Whitman(?)) - No tiki. Next!
Tiki Palace - Braintree - Talk about an ironic name! We walked in and walked out. NO tiki at all.
Then we went to the Tahiti in Dedham. Still open. They've wallpapered over the beautiful murals in back. We walked out. Sick. We got a call from Professor Hummingflower (incedentally, after last night, we think we know why he got that name) called us and sent us to--Beverly. Yes, Beverly from Dedham!
China Jade - Beverly - Supposedly the China Jade has had the same decor since 1959! We hauled ass. We got inside--one Orchids lamp. We walked out. It was a bad night.
We headed for the Bali Hai for $4 Zombies. The good news there is the owner brought out STILL ANOTHER STYLE of new, old stock tiki mugs for us to buy. If anybody wants to see it, I'll post a pic.
Anyway, we're running out of tiki fast in these parts.

Damn! You guys were in my neck of the woods most of the day. The Tiki Garden isn't that great of a place, I wasn't impressed when I went for food and drink.
If you're heading the tour to the South Coast/South Shore, might I suggest Chuck's China Inn in New Bedford. This is where I go to, to relax and eat. The food is great, and every Polynesian-type drink comes in a Tiki Mug. They also have a function room off of the bar. Tony the bartender makes one hell of a drink..
Here's a link to a news article for your enjoyment...

Cheers!
Rick

Damn Rick, good call. The China Inn looks like it has potential. Let's see what the Kahuna's think when they give their scouting report.
The Kowloon has an upstairs???

You're too right. Here's my front yard this morning and it's still coming down. Must be global warming.
Here's da mug (and friend). The other black mug has the pointed head. I know this one appeared at lots of other tiki joints. It just says Made in Japan at the bottom.

Holy Moley!
Here I am, getting depressed over the blizzard of '07, and NETT II is forming as I live and breath!
I really need to check this forum more often...
