"The Secret Fury", a 1950 RKO film noir starring Robert Ryan and Claudette Colbert, has a scene where Vivian Vance (!) walks down a street in front of a large club called the Tahitian with plenty of neon and decor on the front such as bamboo and a ship's wheel.
The movie was pretty slow and melodramatic in the first half, but got more noirish and interesting in the second half. There is a scene in an apartment filled with mid-century modern furniture by Eames, Saarinen, etc.

Last night I caught "Creature with the Atom Brain" (1955) on TCM and was pleasantly surprised by a brief Moai statue peek!
At the beginning of the movie, there's a scene at a casino that's just closed up for the night. One of the employees takes the money from the cashier cage and brings it into the big boss's office to be locked in the safe. As he enters the office, you can spot a small Moai sculpture (maybe a foot or so high?) on a table by the door. You get a couple more quick glances at it later but there's no reference to it all; it's just there in the background as part of the decor of the office. Pretty neat to spot it there just as a decorative item in an executive's office.

I am surprised no one has mentioned The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.
Great movie, and Shirley has two longish scenes with Fred MacMurray in a GREAT Tiki bar.
Directed by Billy Wilder. Worth seeing.

I wonder if those scenes were supposed to portray the old popular (but now long-gone) Trader Vic's in the basement of The Plaza Hotel in New York City?

I was just watching the Abominable Dr. Phibes and was pleasantly surprised by a tiki mask in the background of the scene that starts at 25:10 into the movie...like this flick needed anything else to be cool.

Poking around the internet for Don The Beachcomber info...I came across this:
Screen Snapshots: Hula From Hollywood
...what looks to be a short celebrity newsreel of some sort that was filmed at Don The Beachcomber's Hollywood location in 1954. Some pretty interesting names in the appearance/cast list.
Anyone actually seen this thing or know where to get a copy? Would love to see it.

My kids just yelled to me Dad, tiki! I went in to see what they were watching, and it was a King of the Hill episode. It had some Shag prints hanging on the wall of one of the neighbors houses.
I did a search for king of the hill and sure enough, theres an old post about it.

I found this C-grade horror flick on netflix I havent seen it yet.... 'TIKI'
Far from her Hawaiian home, drama student Amy is also far from happy as a gang of coeds insists on tormenting her. But when a prank causes the girl to suffer a brain seizure, her Auntie Maelea shows up with a special tiki doll to settle the score. Now, while Amy sleeps, her subconscious enters the doll, causing it to inflict tiki terror on her enemies in this Polynesian-themed horror flick.

The new movie by Mel Gibson http://apocalypto.movies.go.com/ (Apocalypto) might be good. It is not Polynesian in orientation, but Mayan. It comes out December 8th, is anyone going? Might also be some good music. Well anyway...give the sight a good surf...the menu piece is very nice.

I just saw a commercial for the GW and tikis were in it. It airs 12/15 at 8pm I think.

Found a 1 dollar video at a thrift store ....."American Vampire"... sorta stupid teen flick with unrealized potential but it has some great and hilarious scenes with Adam West (T.V.'s Batman) where he's "The Big Kahuna"(a surf dude Vampire killer) and he is seen polishing a sorta goofy but cool wooden Tiki.......I was forced to fast forward thru much of this one.....most of the movie I was far to sober to appreciate....But stop for West..... he's fully tongue in cheek funny.....also the movie opens with a far too brief Dick Dale performance....He rocks!!.....also while dragging the depths of Bad movies I found one with Tikis on the cover description....excitedly I watched all of "The Wild Women of Wongo"......not a Tiki in it ! bummer..but if you like Ed Wood Quality...horrible acting ......and one of the most amazing worst films ever ( Hey, I was working the lower parts of my brain!)
I seem to recall a tiki pole somewhere in the "Vampire" one too.......and maybe a tiki spear of sorts.......you CAN"T make me watch it again !

Tiki made an appearance in "Lords Of Dogtown" (2005). In the "Party in the Surf Ghetto" scene, the Z-Boys are passing around what looks like a Huka pipe and one of them puts it up to the mouth of a large vintage-style wooden Tiki to give it a hit. In the background, all the kids are chanting "Ti-ki! Ti-ki! Ti-ki!"
