Simply great work, it looks like you've been doing velvets for a long time. I think you are giving some of the Masters a run for their money.

Mahalo TikiMango! Back atcha with them bone carvings of yours!
I got a long way to go and a lot to learn before I can give them
a run for their money, but I appreciate the comps.
Getting there or die trying to is half the fun.
Looking at a Leeteg or a Tyree blows me away with their artistry.

Anyway, next progress pic....

in her hair. Whaddya think?

Thanks for digging the lei girl and the frames Watango.
Love your carvings! Great progress shots.

I think flowers or just a flower in her hair would add a lot. Wonder if you could just pencil it in to see if you like it. I really like her face. I think in painting facial features are among the hardest to capture. Its looking excellent.

Cheers Leleliz! You win the debate. Besides, when doesn't
a flower look good in a lady's hair. I say Never! I agree faces
can be difficult. So many planes and angles to deal with.
Thanks for the feedback as I relearn to paint again after
years of computer monkeying! I'm having fun!

Here's a better shoot of the previous one that came out blurry.
Getting a little better at shooting velvet, but can't seem to
capture how more warm, rich, and vibrant the colors are in the original.

Added a flower which I'll bring out a little more
on the light side along with her hair. Then I'm done.
Don't want to over work it.

Mahalo for looking!

Mahalo Pat! Thanks for the encouraging words.

Along with Velvet Vahines, I'm gonna do a lot of hula
girls on velvet. Here's a quick sketch for a commission piece
I'll be doing.

Aloha!

Woah. That is beautiful. She just really came to life with that last bit of highlights on her face.

Thanks mp! It's called the fumbling
in the dark process and I think I'm close to
perfecting it!

Sorry Jason, but "Fumbling In The Dark" is a Squid copyrighted and internationally patented process.

The end result is beautiful, no matter how you get there.

Hey kiki von tiki! We must have been writing at the same
time! Thanks for the comments. I need to remind myself that
less is more. I have a tendency to overwork things!
But I'm trying to relearn and unlearn.
