I have a rare painting by KASE AOTEAROA. I was wondering if anybody could tell me anything about this artist or the pricing of his paintings.

Aotearoa is where he's from. Not part of his name.

So in reading this post about Kase, I get an interest. I don't build rockets, just move a little bit of wood around. So I type in Google search "Kase from Aotearoa", up pops more info than you can shake a stick at. Photos of him, his work, books, etc. Some of which stems right back to Tiki Central and this very thread. Kase who reminds me of Ray Donavan had quite a career...worth taking a look.

Thought I'd share my estate sale find here, since none of my friends "get" my love for black velvets

This is Erwin's Hawaiian Cowboy, and he is gorgeous!

This one is not a tiki, but I love it too. It's a Guerrero:

I have a question and by the looks of it this is the place to start. Growing up my grandfather had this painting hanging over his desk or 40 years. I'm told he purchased it late one night from a bartender at the Grand Hawaiian where it hung over the bar. He recently passed and I was lucky enough to find it in a storage locker.

My question is, I'd like to have it professionally cleaned, it has year of embedded dust, and the frame is shot, so I'm looking for references of who would be the best person to talk to about this.

Thanks

Use a lint roller to clean and don't use glass in the frame

Using compressed air in a can helps also.Do not spray too close to velvet .

The velvet I have in my home bar was found in a barn and needed a good cleaning. I used a piece of nylon window screen laid carefully over the surface. Next I used a vacuum with a round brush attachment and very very lightly went over the screen. I wouldn't use this method on an expensive piece but work well on my barn find. The screen keeps the paint and fabric from contacting the brush and the height of the brush helps dissipate the suction. Good luck.
