As a giant Midwestern ice/sleet/snow storm heads inexorably towards me, I'm chillin' with a hot Popocatépetl:
1 oz. Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
1 oz. Presidente Mexican Brandy
1/2 oz. Patrón XO Café Coffee Liqueur
3/4 oz. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz. Don the Beachcomber's Coffee Grog Batter (see Sippin' Safari for sekrit ingredients)
Hot herbal tea (I used Good Earth Orange Spice)
4 whole cloves
Mix all cold ingredients in a skull mug, then add boiling hot tea. Garnish with a strip of lemon peel.

Started off with a Rum Barrel, then did a comparison of the classic Navy Grog with the Samoan Grog. My favorite kind of research. Conclusion: more research needed.

Out of rum (EGADS!) and still a little thirsty. A Forbidden Island signature mug filled with
mango/passion fruit juice and soda water has really done us right... for now.

Baby, it's cold outside, and nothing goes better with subzero temps here in the Upper Midwest than a steaming hot Tom and Jerry, so I thought it might be fun to try and tikify this classic Winter tipple. I call the result the "Tabonga and Jerry" after the killer Polynesian tree monster in the not-so-classic cult film, "From Hell It Came."
1/2 cup of Tom and Jerry batter (buy it pre-made at the store or google the recipe and make it yourself)
1 oz. Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
1 oz. Presidente Mexican Brandy
1/2 oz. Fresh-squeezed Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Fee Bros. Falernum
Add all ingredients to a tiki mug with a handle, then add boiling-hot water to fill. Dust with ground nutmeg and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

WOW!!! a couple sips in and man this thing is PO'TENT!!!!
edit:
I have to admit to being a sally and backing off the 151 Lemon Hart to the 80 for my second one...

It's New Year's Eve! Cheers to one and all!
Tonight we're sippin' Gosling's Family Reserve OLD RUM. Bottle No. 3254/06 will be deflowered tonight in front of the warm hearth! Then we'll need to do a little mixing.... mmmmmm... and then the champagne...
