This is the Lobotomized Neanderthal
Malahat spiced rum, plum wine, pomegranate cordial, absinthe, lime and grapefruit.
I got to try out a couple drinks tonight that might just make the cut for the new menu for False Idol. Pretty excited to hear some of the things that may be in store for the newest SD tiki bar. I can't wait to sit at the bar... When it finally opens

Nui - it was a special event tonight but they do have drinks served in these on their new menu called the Liberty Station Luau. They were tasty! I don't think they sell them, but if you ask they will likely let one go. I got a Malahat shot glass tonight, but I missed out on the False Idol double old fashioned Mai Tai glasses which totally sucks but I hope to get one later.

Porp - yeah the sliders are good. They have a lot of small plate food items. You can get a bunch of different meats served in a bunch of ways. Tonight they had coconut chicken skewers and Mac salad. Food there is always great.

Blood Orange Spindrift. It obviously belongs in a large snifter, but mine seems to have grown legs and walked off.

Mahalo Pat,Ive had a bottle of Skipper Rum in my bar since last summer.
Also have the other ingredients so Im gonna try one tomorrow night.
Cheers

I've really gotten to like Skipper over time. I know it's not the smoothest and nicest of demerara rums, but that heavy, mucky, brown sugar monstrosity of a flavor REALLY shines in certain cocktails, most notably the navy grog, and that 90 proof heft helps it be heard even in drinks where the demerara portion is small compared to the other ingredients.

I don't have the recipe. I know!!! I already had probably had my cocktail limit, but with that name I absolutely HAD to order it. It was very good. I recall Bourbon and egg whites. I'll try to get the recipe next time I stop in. It's a regular stopping place. Great food and bar.

Enjoying this Midshipmen (self named) in a Tiki Diablo glass. Fresh squeezed pink grapefruit juice with lime, cinnamon syrup and a dash of bitters. I recommend a nice golden rum for this drink. This one is made with yellow label Lemon Hart 80. That's right, I have a small stash of it left. Because the Lemon Hart is a Demerara, I don't uses as much cinnamon syrup as I normally would.

Okole Maluna my friends,

John "AKA: Tiki Slinger"
