Thanks guys.

And yeah, I was a little worried about that one being rotton on the inside too. Got lucky I guess.

I showed my boy Mike a pic of the spearfisher so far and he's really stoked on it.

And I'm eager to see what Scott does with the big log. That pic kinda makes it look smaller than it is. Gawd, that thing is HEAVY!!!!

I'm in Tampa now, but I've lived in Cocoa Bch, Melbourne, Stuart (right next to you), and Boca.

This El Nino crap is really starting to piss me off. Middle of September and only 2 tropical swells so far?

Totally bogus dude!

Been a while since I posted.

I moved.

So anyway, here's my house.

And a bunch of future tikis out back.

I replaced my $5 harbor freight GARBAGE with these:

And I've started this:

I love the gouge. Seriously.

I have some big plans for some fishing-rod holder tikis, and I'm gonna make one this week. Stay tuned......

To put it simply, YES.

It's like comparing a rusty screwdriver to a surgeons scalpel.

These ones I bought were like $40 to $50 a pop, which is way more than I ever saw myself spending on this little hobby, but I'm on my 9th tiki now & I guess I just decided that since I'm apparently in this for the long haul I might as well make things a little easier on myself. Really glad I did. Since they're that expensive I'm just buying 'em one at a time every other week. But man, what a huge difference. These new tools are an absolute pleasure to use.

Definitely have to be careful though, they're sharp as a freakin' razor. You could take your thumb off in one clean shot with these things.

I would say that if you're just going to bang out a few tikis for the house of whatever (like I thought when I started), then it's probably too much money to throw. But if you decide (like I did) later that you want to keep turning out carvings, you need to just take it on the chin and go a buy some decent tools. Just my opinion.

A good analogy is GOLF. If you play once or twice a year why buy good clubs (its not gonna help your game). If you play once a week and play with crappy clubs, a new set top-of-the-line clubs will take strokes off your final score.

pjc5150 - why are still using the discount bin Driver? Good chisels are nice, but you're using a rubber mallet to strike them?? Dude your next investment should be for either a wooden mallet or even better a urethane mallet. Its like juicing your engine with Nitrus!

Funny you should mention that,

because a buddy of mine freaked out when he saw the rubber mallet. It's the same one I use to drive in tent pegs when I go camping! He uses a rawhide mallet & swears by it. But yeah, I'm probably buying a new one here in the next week or so.

Hey Pic5150, congrats on the tool upgrade, and while it is a big step, as you see the difference is Bigger and puts you in a whole different catagory. Already you are thinking of better stuff to do and how you're gonna do it. WELCOME!
