hang10tiki PM your birthdate to me please. Tiki Birthdays are so fun we don't want to miss yours.

LoriLovesTiki I know how you feel. I always go to look at what we have missed. At least last year we saw the Mai Kai and it was over the top tiki cool.

johnnyvelvet we see this so often that only the wife or husband is tiki crazy and it's a situation that is hard on both of them. We are so totally tiki together that every day is fun. We also have a social life that is with tiki friends. They have given us so much joy.

I loved your comment. I'm ready to make you a Tiki Bob variation when you are ready. On page 406 I have some already done just waiting for a home but your own design maybe what you desire. It's all just fun. Thank you very much.

ebtiki I see your loot on facebook. I'm glad I do both now.

======================================

Hi Everyone. Yesterday was a hard day. I had been putting off breaking molds for a long time but I've run out of storage room so it had to be done. Molds are so much work that breaking them hurts.

I started off by removing my name from some bottoms.

I lay out the first set to destroy. These were the Tiki Crate mugs for Forbidden Islands 5th anniversary. Their 10th isn't that far off.

I whacked them with an Italine supunie or Ameican pick ax.

Next came the 2013 Sacramento Coral Reef Crawl mug molds.

It is fun to use this tool.

Then I found another mold for the FI along with a mold I used to make only two bowls.

Psycho Tiki D and Dan each have a bowl and no other will be made.

I have more molds to break up but we were afraid the bottom would break out of the garbage can so we stopped there.

This was fun like whacking gofers at the fun park.

====================================

I had one last Wish List project requested and since I could do it in one day I whipped it out. If it passes inspection then there will be another member of Professor G's Brotherhood of the Blue Bob's.

Here are the drying Wish List projects. One left to dry and then it will be time to sand and fire.

I've been working every day and I have lots to show you. It's so much fun here. Thank you all, Wendy

Absolutely stunning!

I particularly like the textured Tiki Bob.. Its nice deep detail should really make for some wonderful glazing effects!

OWTCHIE!
BREAKING THOSE BEAUTIFUL MOLDS all full of your sweet heart and radiating talent?!?!?
It feels like you're smashing an Acropolis Frieze....
you could always saw off the backs,glaze or stain the fronts,
and add a hanger to the back...
i bet there are tons of folks eager to get their hands on history like that!
Buzzy could probably shear off the backsides of them lickety split!
It just crumbles my heart...those are the objects that MADE those classic mugs
like having Rodin's chisel...

Anyways,so sad i missed you at the ITMP a while back.
i semi-sprained mu ankle and it got SWOLE
so it was elevated and iced
and i painted at the studio with a sad heart
missin out on all the fun
and hugs!
i hope you received all the proxy ones that were ordered ...

Your work is always outstanding and filled with SO much love
and JUST the variety of styles and looks you've tackled recently..
Each one is crafted with care and such an attention to detail
you are a Modern Master of ceramic genius! Bravo!
it is such a gift to know ALL the talented sculptors here in this lil group of ours
a cauldron of bubbly creativity!

Thanks for the smiles received reading your last few pages!
Hugs!

TikiHula today was another mold busting day. At the same time it was also a fun day. I enjoyed our conversation. We have new friends coming to tour on Sunday at 1 PM. You are welcome to join us.

hang10tiki today was the last day of busing molds. Now each day I will show some new creations. While I work on the Wish List I still make things during my free time.

Tiki501 my great nephew when he was little would put on sunglasses and say, "I'm a cool boy". You reminded me of that. He's a teenager now.

RVICTOR confession time, I had two of those molds and I saved one just in case I want to do some that are altered. I'm glad you liked it.

kingstiedye guess what I'm working on a Maori Rat Fink. I have a few things to post first.

Capt'n Skully I do plan to experiment with glazes on the mugs that are not already purchased. I hope to find some fun things to mix together.

little lost tiki oh no! I busted them before I read your message. Oh well, I will have more molds in the future.
I've broken and ankle and walked on it at Tiki Oasis a few years ago before being ordered into a brace and crutches. I sure hope your ankle isn't worse than you know. Xrays are a good thing to have.

I did miss your hugs at Marketplace. Big Toe gave me one from you and I gave you one back from him. Please collect it!

I've been enjoying your art of facebook, don't you need to catch up here again? Time for you to create a Space themed painting for Tiki Oasis. I'm working on a ceramic I'll share here when it's further ahead.

I'm smiling at you right now.

==================================

This was a terrific batch of messages. Thank you all you made my day.

==================================

Phase Two of attacking and smashing molds but also saving some of the parts.

I was about to smash the molds from last years Albert's Tiki Village when I realized that I could alter them so that I could use them again.

I have two of these coconut mugs.

I used a rounded chisel to remove the raised parts that said Sacramento CA.

This side had the tiki and more words but

I managed to remove those too. Now I have two large molds for coconut mug blanks. They will be fun to play with.

The last mold to break were the 2012 Sacramento Crawl mug molds. They had a hula girl and Hawaiian Hut on the front and a real hut with palms on the back.

It really is fun to whack them.

One or two strikes on each and

they were destroyed. All done.

===================================

The Brotherhood of the Blue Bob that I showed yesterday needed a tiki so I added a Moai. It's just roughed out here in very soft clay.

===================================

For a long time I had this Tiki Bob alteration in mind. I finally did it.

Dan named it Curley Q Bob. I just started adding clay.

I kept going until I made these designs all the way around.

I let it sit in a plastic bag for a couple of days and then I started fine tuning the swirls. Then I roughed up the flat parts.

All done and posing.

Just a bit of the clay I removed during the fine tuning.

Think Bob's ok with his new do? Or is it doo?

=======================================

Cheers, Wendy

Quick catch-up after missing a few days! Molds a-breaking, Wendy swinging heavy tools (without gloves or safety goggles, tsk tsk!) and a groovy new serpentine-esque Bob!

Thanks for posting those hole-making tools. I've used other tools, though none have worked so well when clay was THAT dry. Hmmm, I'll have to keep an eye out for those- or maybe just cut holes earlier than later!

Wowzers. It IS sad to see the molds go, storage must be an issue with all of the different ones you keep making!

I'm still on mold-making hiatus, working on a few new pieces that came out of the kiln, have to figure out how to come up with some time to photograph and then post them! One piece came out of the mold today and it keeps "pinging" seven or so hours later. Wendy, not sure if you've had this happen, but one piece kept distracting us during dinner tonight!

TikiAno caught being careless. I'll do better next time.

When you bisque fire it is important to have the kiln on hold for 20 minutes after it reaches the bisque max temperature. This insures that is shrunk completely.

If this isn't done then when you glaze, even though it's a lower temperature, as the mug cools it shrinks more and the glaze is staying larger. That makes the glaze ping pop loose from the mug. Careful the glaze is glass but if you squeeze the mug sometimes you can make it ping and the glaze will pop off.

This also happens if the mug had any clay dust on it. That will also cause the ping and loss of glaze. If nothing comes off with squeezing put it under water to see if any cracks show up.

Good luck, in the beginning doing Wish List number one I had this happen to me and I had to make pieces over again.

hang10tiki did you make the pinging sign? Coconut mugs are fun to make and to glaze.

=======================================

During some free time I examined the Tiki Bob's I have in plastic bags in the garage. I found one that had completely dried out. It's hard to carve these because they are brittle but I gave it a shot and did a spiral Bob.

I used a dental tool. It was sharp enough that it didn't chip the clay too badly.

This is where I quit because my hand was wearing out.

====================================

Then I got out one of the Fogcutter mug blanks to carve. I'm really enjoying these new mugs. It was worth the work of making the 3 molds.

===========================================

BEWARE PLAYING WITH CLAY IS ADDICTIVE.

===========================================

cHEERS, wENDY

hang10tiki thank you. I love these new fogcutter shapes. They are fun to work with.
=====================================

Progress Report on Wish List #5. It's time to sand all the projects. When that's done I'll post those photos.

Meanwhile in my down time I've been having some fun with mugs that I'd cast and stored in plastic bags.

Today I paired up a hula girl and a coconut mug. I started by cutting off her feet. Two reasons, one so she would fit and second so that she wouldn't blow up in the kiln. All the hot air needs a place to escape. Putting her in the coconut closed up the hole on the bottom.

One I had glued her with sticky clay to the bottom of the bowl I added hair.

Once that was all done front and back I carved the coconut.

All done and posing. Coconut Hot Tub!

Another Tiki Bob mug that I finished a week ago is a somewhat midcentury design.

I deepened the carving in places.

All done and posing.

A few more photos to share and then I'll be posting the Wish List Progress again. Cheers, Wendy
