As probably one of maybe ten people that have seen it, I can agree that it could be a museum piece. That big piece of palm is looking good. What a dramatic difference in hardness - I'm surprised your not tearing through that soft Palm.

Stunning carve Will. It is a testament to taking your time.
Very nice finish indeed.

This carve sucked.
This fan palm trunk is the bottom of the tree
that died some time ago.
It's 30 in tall & 36 in wide.
Carv1ng it is a cross between stringy potato & wet rope.
The center is like wet straw. I can't carve deep.
It's ok, when it drys out it will be fine.
Stain & brush on polly. Lil sanding, it'l be cool.
I have 2 more 5 foot sections of this tree.
I'm going to let them dry for a few months.
Hope they carve better then.

I guess I'm late on the bandwagon, but that previous carving is really over the top. Wonderful piece...one of my favorites!

I started one similar to that just recently but I'll be reluctant to post mine now. Just not working on your level yet. Not many are. Nice job.

LMFAO!!
That's it - keep telling yourself its the log! Going from one degree of hardness to exact opposite would send any carver's head spin. Don't you need to start on that other Oak log?

lol...what's funny is how close your idea of what "sucks" is pretty close to what the rest of us would refer to as "awesome".
but yeah, you set the bar super high on that last piece for sure... looking forward to seeing what's next.

The Tang is done for now.
What a mess. It just needs to dry out, a lot.
Then I can finish it.
But I have the other navel oak. It's about 40 in tall.
Hard stuff. I'm getting use to it.
This is the Ku 2.
2 weeks & I'm still ruffing out.
At least I've cut off enough wood to be
able to carry it.
This guy has no ears but,
I'm sure something will be popping
out of somethings ears sometime.
