Amy, Rory, You out did yourselves once again. What a weekend. Tiki Ray at the the fishin' hole and the BBQ. The Ding Dong Devils Friday night, Hula Girls Saturday night, Jeff "Big Tiki Dude" everywhere in between. Crazy Al, Kelly and, I'm sure, a cast of thousands, along with the Queen herself made sure everyone had a great time.

It is an honor to share 1st place for "Best Trailer" with the Nelsons and their amazing mid century modern trailer. Thank you for the wonderful prize of the Asom Broso Tequila, margarita mix and the hand painted pitcher and glass set.

We expanded our presence this time by bringing our middle daughter Marisa her husband Rob and daughter McKenna. They, along with us of course, will be back next April. We are hoping daughter Alice and hubby Chris, of Frankie's fame, will be able to make it as well.

Thanks again for a great weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone next time.

This weekend was a BLAST for me. How often do I get to bartend an event I am involved with and work with the Tonga Hut Crew?
Thank you to everyone for giving us a chance to entertain you,and ENTERTAINING us in return.

The subject matter of Primitive really opened the minds of a lot of our guest. The Outfits and decorations were next level. Rum Dog and the family blew my mind with the time and effort involved, but everyone else was still well above par.

It was great being tiki with a twist for the weekend. We had Vodka cocktails on the trailer crawl served by mad raider fan's and even some new bee's that had us over for cocktails and were playing jimmy buffett and pouring bacardi. BUT,They were friendly and involved and wanted to learn tiki.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this work and to Amy for letting me do only half of my normal job i have to do with Caliente.

Our Sponsor's

WHO GETS SPONSORED FOR A FIRST TIME GIG? I hope you see we handed of the savings and great products back to you instead of walking away with all the good stuff our selfs.

Entertainment...it was great being a little more personal and less formal since the crowd was smaller and you were invited to be part of the party.

Ding Dong Devils.......Crazy show with great outfits
Hula Girls for going a 3 set show
Big tiki Dude for always being a steady stream of mood music

I LOVE THE NEW TALENT THAT IS OUT THERE THESE DAY'S Some of the vendors we get are mind blowing and deserve a bigger spot in the tiki world.

Some of these vendors can't afford to go to the larger tiki shows and that is a large loss for those shows, but a great gain for us.

Check out some of my goodies.

Grog,David Wong and Al Evens, thank you for painting an image that was in my head for a great primitive show

Please believe we did our best for you and tried to give you your moneys worth. As it was a first time gig and I believe we had some dinks i believe a few tweaks and we are golden

Amy, Rory thanks for the hospitality! We had a great time and met some fun people. It was a magical atmosphere at the lake and the crawls were a blast. The new Crash Bar is very cool and the cabanas rock. We can't wait to do it again. Thanks also to Kelly, Crazy Al, Buzzy, Big Tiki Dude, TikiRay, Jeremy, Lexi and everyone else that worked hard to make it a primitive weekend.

Wow, where to start? What a great weekend. Having not attended Mojave Oasis in April, I wasn't sure what to expect. But whatever my expectations were, Goin' Primitive blew them away. Mojave Oasis is clearly a special place, and to be there with a community of friends (both known and unknown) was really really great. The location itself was overwhelming from the time we drove in. I think I audibly gasped as I checked in at the gate. Clearly this is the work of talented, passionate people.

Thanks to Amy/Queen Kamehameha and Rory for hosting the event. The mark of good hosts is when they ask if you're having a good time and we were asked that a number of times (the answer is absolutely yes!). Tikival and I lucked out and got a tent spot next to BigTikiDude who in addition to spinning great music all weekend is just a great guy. We were also in the shadow of Rum Dog and his Skull Island. Wow, what awesome decor and production. Thanks to Kelly for organizing the crawl. We missed Friday but hit every stop on Saturday. Each drink was tasty and the finishing 1-2 punch of PiPhiRho and Trader Tom should not have been missed by anyone in attendance. Congrats to PiPhiRho for taking first place in the crawl, the Cannibal really was outstanding.

Good stuff all-around: Crazy Al's endless energy; Jeremy from Tonga Hut manning bar; picking up some Xmas gifts for friends from Ken Ruzic (nice guy alert!); picking up more fezzes from the Fezmonger; the Ding Dong Devils playing in costume Friday night; getting an unexpected 3rd set from the Hula Girls and dancing (poorly) all through that 3rd set with tikival; and probably 12 other things I'm forgetting right now as I sip from my Goin' Primitive mug…oh yeah, thanks Grog!

Mahalo to everyone involved in putting this event on, tikival and I had much more fun than anyone should when camping. We can't wait to do it again.

Oh yeah, the photos!

Also: this is one fully functional mug. No way I was ready to be done "Goin' Primitive" just because we went home...

We had a great time and thanks to Amy and Rory for the event. It was fun helping but I overdid it a little with my back . Sorry but I get a little grumpy from the pain . But everyone got fed as Amy told me and the fishing derby was a big success . Heres a pic of Joeseph Morgan who won the contest . A 3 year old kid with a 5 lb. catfish . This made my day .

Ding Dong Devils belting out a number. Loved the song about King Kong. Try to squeeze in a lryic about Sperm of Kong. Especially enjoyed talking to you all about our similar punk rock roots in the early 80's.

Jeff BTD spinning some tunes. Big time thanks lending your muscles to get the volcano up & down.

Spike sing Volcano. Make a poster next time.

Christian doing a solo number.

Crazy Al Evans. Thanks for the funnel.

Buzzy running around all weekend helping everyone. Big time thanks for getting the truck out of the sand.

Ray loves to fish. Thanks for busting your ass off all week behind the grill.

Amy the Queen of Mojave. Thanks for hosting.

Rory The King of all things Primitive. Great party

Thanks to everyone for a really fun event! Not having attended Mojave Oasis, we in The Ding Dong Devils were blown away by our first visit to the site (the stage is not only gorgeous, it has more power and lighting than most nightclub and restaurant stages!), and by the Goin' Primitive decorations and costumes. I want to apologize for my playing during the first four songs of our set--playing in the Luau Pig mask was better in concept than reality.

Thanks to all the trailer/tent crawl hosts...great drinks, concepts and decorations! And having been badly scared by an elementary school showing of the bicycle safety film One Got Fat way back when, it was good therapy to finally embrace and overcome some deep seeded fears.

What's the story on this plane ??

It's not the original plane that started this thread...

http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=31832&forum=1&124

but is it indeed one of the vintage aircraft associated with the area ??

Funny pics, Rumdog.

What happened to everyone after The Hula Girls were done? We finished loading out by midnight and finally ready to really start drinking and seemingly everyone was asleep or something... Well, everyone except for a bunch of locals at the bar...

AMAZING place though. I can't wait to get back out there again. It's inspiring me and Dinah to think about getting a vintage trailer!
Thanks again to Rory and Amy and to everyone who hung around and watched all three of our sets!

John, The original plane from Lake Loreen was unobtainable. So we got a plane that closely resembles the Lake Loreen Tiki Bird. We named ours Lake Aloha Tiki Bird and painted it similar. It is the crash site Bar near the stage, so when the bands are playing, you don't walk all the way to the Clam bar. Its really just another decoration, and we wanted to pay a bit more homage to Lake Loreen. Hopefully this did the trick.

Great addition !! It's an appropriate symbolic link in the whole historical chain of Mojave Oasis.

Full circle.

I look forward to seeing it next year.
