Hello all you wonderful tiki people.

I’ve been enjoying this site and forum for a while and decided it was time to introduce myself. My name is Mike Brady (no, not that Mike Brady) and I’ve been a tiki and exotica music fan since I bought “Quiet Village” when it was first released (1958?). I was about 12 years old then but that music was really something that I could identify with. Anyway, I had to make a living for a few years and kind of neglected Tiki culture but now I am retired and have much more time to devote to travel and tiki. My lovely wife also enjoys tiki which makes me a lucky man.

We live in central California (Visalia - 20 miles east of Hanford, 25 miles east of Lemoore) and there is not much going on around here that we have heard of and if any of you are from this area we would really enjoy hearing from you.
We do invite all to visit our Tiki Album in our Smugmug photo hosting website. Just go to:
http://threetikis.smugmug.com/gallery/1596223

This site has photos of tikis we have in our backyard and some we have seen in our travels. Take a look if you are interested.

Glad to be a new member!

Hey all...

Been browsing the forums for a couple of weeks and loving it. Generaly I collect and love anything mid-century. Tiki is taking hold of me and really finding it to be very consuming. I have been reading The Book of Tiki and am still looking for a good cheap copy of Tiki Quest to help me be a little more informed.

I will admit that I have yet to buy one piece of Tiki. I guess that is the collector in me... want to have a little knowledge before I go on my own quest. That and we are moving next month into a house and don't have any room in the place we are in now. Generally intrested in Tiki ware and other Tiki room/club/lounge paraphernalia. I am somewhat of a artist and after things slow down a bit, getting back to the drawing board. Perhaps some Tiki will be in the future. I would also like to try my hand at carving Tikis for the new yard. I'm Glad to find another group of people that are into what I'm into. Look forward to meeting you all...

Brian

Hi Rev,
Yes, Fogcutters are the norm around here from November through Jan every year. Some time it really gets depressing. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi hiltiki,
Thanks for the welcome and kind words about the yard (
http://www.threetikis.smugmug.com/gallery/1596223 ). And yes, the 2 cities of Hanford and Lemoore are just to the west of Visalia. When I first started hearing about Hanford Lemoore on tiki sites I thought that there must be some connection to the cities but I guess not.

Welcome ThreeTikis!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos! Your yard is FABULOUS!! I see you have some Zack Zachary tikis, I have at least a handful of his tikis and masks. I love his work! If you see him, give him a hug from Shawn and Liza from Carlsbad, CA his tikis are proudly being displayed on our new Portland house porch!

Thank you again for sharing your wonderful yard with us!

Liza

Hola everyone!
I have been checkin' out the forum for a while and it seems like ya'll are fabulous! I live in Palmdale which is a hellishly hot desert in LA County - I am a crazy mamam of 3 who would rather complete her sleeve than spend it on pampers but hey...it's all choices right? I look forward to meeting ya'll

The kids will be potty trained before you know it but the ink will be with you until you die. Go with the sleeve! Oh, and welcome

All I can say is.....WOW! That is one of the most beautiful yards I have ever seen! I can't imagine how nice it must be to have that to relax in and around every day! Wonderful job!

At last, a (formerly) Yahoo Group that appeals to me. Met some of you during the Portland swing last weekend and just joined the list. I enjoyed the Tiki Tour immensely!

First off, let me say how great it is to finally jump into the fray here and start posting. Keeping Tiki-culture alive is something that is very near and dear to my heart and these forums are doing such an amazing job! Very glad to be here.

I'll spare everyone the boring details of my life until now but I will tell you that ever since I can remember there has been a Tiki in my life in one way or another. Growing up in So. Cal. Definitely helped there =) Having spent every one of my 31 years here I have been lucky enough to have visited some truly wonderful places as well as the bittersweet fortune to have been able to visit the “ruins” of formerly great southland destinations. The recent closing of Sam’s Seafood in Huntington Beach hit me especially hard as I just recently moved out of my old apartment – located a couple minutes down PCH from Sam’s. That place was truly something special and I couldn't believe it when I heard it had been sold. I never got to make it to the closing. But I digress….

I’ll keep the nostalgic yapping to a minimum and close this intro with a firm virtual handshake and a friendly “Howdy Pardner”. Good to be here.
