I've been enthralled by tiki ever since my first tip to Hala Kahiki back in the late 90's for a work party. I got rinsed on fog cutters or zombies, I forget which. I've always had a fond (and somewhat blurry) memory of that warm fuzzy rum drunk that only tiki drinks can deliver and hanging out with new friends. I'd love to say I've been chasing the tiki dragon ever since however it actually took me a while to really get obsessed by tiki culture. 5 years ago my girlfriend bought me my first tiki mugs as a X-mas present. A buddy got me a How to throw a Tiki Party by Trader Vic book, and we threw our first party that year. That's when I was properly hooked. My collection and drinking adventures have been growing ever since. Mahalo!

Greetings everyone from the shores of the great ChesaTiki Bay over here on the East Coast! I've been lurking for a couple of months now, and finally decided to join. We have a small beach cottage we purchased last year and I've been searching for home bar ideas, this is definitely the place for inspiration!

Hi There.

I'm Kim, from Holland (you're warned for louzy English). I'm a big tiki-fan and viewed tikicental more then a few times! Thought it was time to sign up.. We've build our own Tikibar in the backyard, it's not finished yet (is it ever!?). April 2013 we're headin' to California, hope to score some items over there.
I'll try to post some pic's of the bar in the home-bar corner, if anyone's interested.

Greetz Kim 'MissTiki'

Anyway, I hope you'll understand the Dutch writing!?

Kim,

I must confess that I cheated and used Google Translate. I thought you may appreciate being welcomed in your own language. Thank you for the promised cocktail if ever I visit.

Brudda Bear,

Haha that's a good one. I sure do appreciate it, thanks.
For you to take the afford to do that, makes me feel very welcome!

Cheers x

It's getting close to 4am here in Southern California...as good a time as any to sign up to Tiki Central.
Mike here in San Pedro Ca, lifelong Tiki/Tropical/Polypop obsessionist taking my first step publicly. I'll tell my wife later...peace.

No, Father Goose, don't tell your wife that you joined TC! If you haven't already started, begin immediately by filling up the house with various tiki and bar accoutrements, start shopping for nice rums at your local Liquor Barn, begin using strange words like "falernum" and "orgeat" in everyday conversation, start stapling bamboo mats to your walls and ceilings, buy and install full-sized carved tikis around your property, and then replant both your front and back yards with tropical foliage and *never* trim them. She'll figure it out soon enough -- and then it will be too late. Bwahahahaha!

And welcome to TC!

Hello,
I've been a fan of the Tiki aesthetic & culture for a long time. Aloha Shirts to Tiki Statues, I love it all. The best is a good Tiki Bar with some enticing exotica music playing in the background. I've been lurking around this website for a while now and feel it's time to join the community. I look forward to being a part it.

ALOHA !!!
As you can see on the side here <---- I've been on this site since 2008, just have never properly introduced myself. I'm Thomas, the moniker Alii Tiki came about when I was registering on this site - I lived on Alii Drive & it rhymed with Tiki.
My TIKI roots are much like many of the others here who lived in Southern California, surrounded and exposed to Poly-Pop & Mid Century Modern but unaware of the effects of that exposure until later in life.

In the mid 70's as a young boy I lived across the street from what is now the Mission Tiki Drive-In, we would take cardboard to sit on, into (what used to be) a vacant lot across Ramona St. and watch the movies for free, trying to cypher the sounds of which movie we could see out of the din of the 4 playing plus road traffic and the trains going by.
At that time there was still some orange groves along the other side of us along State St. and as you can imagine (or perhaps have done yourselves) we would have our fill of the fruit, and many fruit flinging wars between the neighborhood kids.

My mother moved us out to Palm Springs in the mid 80's and the Tiki inundation continued, as a teenager Caliente Tropics was just another hotel that we would pool/party hop during spring break (which at that time was a huge party) in our quest for lust filled young girls. One building in particular did strike a chord with me though, along Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, the Ken Kellogg designed Chart House. Such a unique and amazing building that even as a dis-affected youth, I was in awe of the creative lines of the building as they melded into the hillside and the surrounding desert.
*** Ken Kellogg also designed a spectacular home known as the Onion House here in my new hometown of Kona.***

In 1998 I went to work for Chart House in the Rancho Mirage location, they were doing a new concept called Ono Island.

In July of 1999 I transferred with Chart House to Kailua Kona, Hawaii as a kitchen manager. Of course not more than a couple of months after I left the desert started having what became known as Coachella Music & Art Festival and then in 2001 Tiki Oasis began. I suppose I was just ahead of the curve for being hip, or never was hip and just needed to get out of the way.

I am now employed at a store called Bamboo Too here in Kona, a true exotic building materials dreamland.
I have been fortunate to have met Dug Miller here in town and have delighted in his Tiki collection/museum.

Tiki has exploded in my life - the years of saturation have steeped within my psyche, bringing me here to this gathering place with all of you.
The tribe has welcomed me with open arms and wonder filled hearts.
Mahalo for the ALOHA.
