Um... Aloha... My user name is EnchantedTikiGoth, but I'm content to be called by my actual name of Cory.

I've been getting more and more into Tiki style as a by-product of a growing interest in 50's and 60's hipster culture, brought on by my being into Monster Kitsch (Universal Studios Monsters, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Mad Monster Party, Disney's Haunted Mansion, and other manifestations of horror pop-culture in the mid-century). I guess that sort of explains why a Goth boi who's ordinarily into Neo-Victorianism and typical "Goth stuff" is also into Polynesian Pop.

I finally decided to join up to this board after scoring bigtime yesterday... For the Christmas season I worked at a kiosk selling Indonesian imports. As a parting gift when we closed up, our boss let us each take home $100 worth of merchandise(!!). I snagged this really nice, huge, Tiki mask and a bamboo candle thing, which is starting off my Tiki-themed kitchen nicely. Now I'm just sort of looking at where to go from here.

Unfortunately, while I'm still a poor university student and need roommates, I can't go nuts with the Tiki style, though they seemed okay so far when they got back from Christmas with their families to find the kitchen having come over all South Pacific. But nevertheless, I have been warned (so far they've been pretty good about the Japanesque bathroom I've been slowly working on, by way of my geeky interest in anime, but I am letting them keep the "generic mainstream university student ethnic eclectic" living room intact).

It also helps that I've taken up drinking in the last few months, so I suddenly have all these little umbrellas that add to the decor. Chocolate Coladas are really good too. Mmm...

Anyways, I don't have much to add to Tiki discussion... I'm more just here to lurk and learn, so... uh... yeah...

Cory

Hi all. Thought I'd introduce myself. I have been reading the forum for a while, but couldn't come up with a good user name. Finally came up with a decent one, and thought I'd start out the new year right.

Anyway ... I am pretty new to the tiki scene. My mug collection totals about 15, with some bookends, and a s&p set. So I've got a long way to go. Glad to be joining you all on this incredible site.

Happy New Year!

Hey Enchanted Tiki Goth!

It's good to see another Calgarian in here. Welcome!

I'm really curious to see the Tiki Mask you scored from yr boss. If they set up again next X-mas, you'll heve to let me know where...I've been having a hell of a time finding that sort of thing in Calgary.

Maybe it's too late for a proper intro, but here goes. I've been on TC for a month or so and I really enjoy the camaraderie. Alot of knowledgeble folks in here! I'm always amazed at the creativity of members.
I am relatively new to the Tiki scene( a couple of years). I fell in love with Hawaii as a child as a result of a contest trip. Later when I met my wife, she took me back to paradise! With our numerous adventures in the Carribbean, we married on the beach in Cozumel.
When we bought our little house, I told her I wanted to turn the backyard into our own tropical getaway. Upon my research of tropical plants and tropical gardening that would survive the Texas weather, I found TIKI. Interested about these carvings, I remembered when my family went to Walt Disney World. We stayed at the Polynesian Village Resort and I loved every minute of our stay.
Working in surgery at one of the major trauma centers in Fort Worth doesn't allow me as much time in the yard as I would like. But I am glad I found TC!

Hi Slacks Ferret!

I looked on my former store's website, in the hopes that the mask would be in the catalogue, but alas it was not. Guess I still have to get a digital snapshot of it.

Incidentally, the other day I saw this girl with one of those shirts from a fake store/hotel/bar/etc. that they sell at American Eagle Outfitters... The fake establishment it was promoting was an alpine Tiki resort, and all I could think was "how appropriate for this weather..."

I have been looking around here for only 5 hours....Really love this site!!I used to make my living as a wood carver and Tikis were the bread and butter.I'm in South Florida and have not carved for about 10 years. Browsing around here makes me want to go out and get more tools and wood.
here are a few pix of my carvings. [imghttp://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4df28b3127cce9afab2bf059200000015108BZsnDFm3ao[/img]

Maybe I can go get some lunch now. Well, in a few more minutes...........
Thanks

Welcome to TC, Benzart. Looks like you've done some great carving work in the past, I hope you do pick up the hammer & chisel again.
