I'm finding it hard resiting the urge to bid.

There is a brass plate at the base of the ice bucket that reads: "LIVORNO 1894"

Have no idea what this means. Web search reveals a bunch of Italian-only posts.

i ran some of those sites thru the babel fish website (instant translation) seems livorno is a tuscan (port)? fortified city. flies with the he-man gentlemen's decor this bucket was trying to capture...

i was watching the dick van dyke show a while ago and his basement pool room had "swords" and "armor "on the walls as decoration. perhaps a space-age reaffirmation of suppressed aggression?

"Never used"? That's the part I don't get in these ads. It was about ten minutes before I was using mine! And hard!

J$ -- speaking of armor on midcentury walls:

It's a Maxwell House commercial ... found this while hunting down a Hamm's commercial ... this link will take you to a reel of 7 commercials (the Maxwell House commerc. is the 4th one in; the Hamm's is the 5th).

And yes -- repressed aggression in the 1950s -- wassup wid dat?
