Does anyone have any experience carbonizing lauhala matting? I may be getting some light matting and wanted to darken it a bit. Anyone here try torching it? Or can you use wood stain or shoe polish?
Advice please!

Its seems that torching it would only damage it. (fire fire fire) Maybe a wipe on water based stain?

Hey Martiki,
Soak it in your favorite rum, light a match and stand back. Anothers method that may work and save precious rum is black tea. I have had pretty good luck staining natural fibers with it. I would try soaking it for a couple days in a strong brew. good luck. Let us know how it works out.
