Making it official (sorry to step on your date, Doctor Z!). For all TCers not heading to the Purple Orchid, you are welcome to come on by on Saturday evening, August 28 to visit the brand new Durukuli Lounge! Shall we say 8pm?
MonkeyBoy's usually great about feeding guests, but he's working all day and I don't cook, so please eat first...
Just drop me a line at home: lawebchick (at) nocturne (dot) com or PM me here and I'll send you the addy & directions!
We're near the intersection of the 110 and 5 freeways...

Hey!
Is the Durukuli Lounge the bar that used to be called "Footsies" and is on figueroa and Ave 26...
Seen folks standing outside of it for a few weeks now but havent gone in yet.
If it is, just a word of warning, make sure that no valuables are visible if you are parking in back or on the street...
Mahalo!

Just how close do you live from us, Moi? We've been wondering what's going on over there. But in any case, the Durukuli Lounge is not the old Footsies, but our home bar:

Come on by!

Thank you so much, LAWebChick & MonkeyBoy, for the delightful evening at the Durukuli Lounge! I had a fabulous time. Here are a few pics:
MonkeyBoy behind the bar:
LAWebChick enjoying a tasty "Bilge":
MonkeyBoy with a bottle of vintage rum that I thought looked like it just came off the set of a bondage porn flick:
While the bottle was really cool, the rum inside it was a bit... astringent. We thought a little lime would spruce it up a bit, but no dice.
Christiki at the bar:
The bar, sans patrons:
Thanks again! Now I feel bad for not having a bar to reciprocate at... I'll have to buy you guys a round at Tiki-Ti!
The rest of the photos from that magical night:

Aloha Dawntiki,
Excellent and very apt description.
The Durukuli lounge emits the aura of being in the steamy tropics, post rain. It must be the lighting, the open air and lush environment, the bamboo, the exotic house cocktails, the coconut and queen palms, the wooden gangplank and the strains of Martin Denny & co. playing in the back ground.

Yipe! Bite your tongue - it's not watertight yet! LOL
We've purchased the materials, but haven't gotten them up yet, so everyone cross your fingers for us that the weather stays nice & dry until we do. All those bottles are unprotected...
DawnTiki - come visit next time, we'll post when we've both got the night off again.
Humu - Astringent *snicker* You're very diplomatic. And don't be ridiculous! You've done more than your share.
Chris - you're so poetic, thanks!
And our pix - Humu, Julie, and Chris
