Having recently purchased the new Esquire Drink Book, an excellent collection of classic cocktail recipes filled with wry wit and wonderful drink snobbery, I noticed how many old drinks have Benedictine as an ingredient, the most famous being the Singapore Sling.
I've been out of Benedictine for a while, so I bought a bottle and started to mix. The first one I made was the Oahu Gin Sling from Intoxica. I won't list the recipe here but it was very good.
I love rye so I tried the Junior next:
2 oz. rye
1/2 oz. Benedictine
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
dash Angostura bitters
Shake w/cracked ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass. A good change of pace from a Manhattan if you want a drink with rye.
