I don't stumble across much tiki stuff in my part of the world - more likely to come across genuine Maori carvings than vintage tiki chic - but somewhere along the way I came across this string of lights. Still waiting to find the perfect place for them.

Also salvaged these Bosko masks from Okolemaluna, where they were installed on the front-side of the bar.

SCORE on those Hawaiian Hut pieces! ...now YOU have to open a local watering hole with them
This weekend I will attend a re-dedication ceremony of the original Maori hut that inspired some of the pieces at the Hawaiian Hut:

Found today at one location. All opinions are welcome.
PNG or African? 2' tall
PNG on left, LS,Rht.
Leroy Schmaltz piece , bought by my wife CeCe at Whittier Art Show-picked up today.
[
PNG, 20"
stamped inside; International Hat Co WA. 1946. WA =Western Australia. Gonna hang this helmet somewhere in my tiki lounge.
Oop's, forgot this guy, approx, 20"
Cheers
P S Did some staring and comparing on google images. I'm convinced that the statue is PNG rather than African.

Your copy of Tiki Quest must be serving as an oversize coaster. Check page 150.

Alii Tiki - congrats on the Hawaiian Hut -> Okolemaluna Tikis... those are beautiful. I think Gecko owns the other one, right?

Yes bigbro - I'm -- as they say -- "STOKED"
As for opening my own watering hole - I don't think I will be taking that on anytime soon, after having been in the restaurant business for over a dozen years myself, I can honestly say that the hours of work necessary do not allow for the quality of family time that I enjoy.
Enjoy the Rauru ceremony, that is a beautiful exhibit, that one day I hope to see in person.
If you get the chance to shoot some of the exhibit - Please do share.
Looking at the image in your link I see a resemblance in the resin Hawaiian Hut Maori piece to the lower left support, a stylized and simplified version of something like it, at the least

Hey Buzz That storyboard in your last pic is awesome! What are the dimensions? Provenance if known? Looks too good to be an airport souvenir. Just what's the story on this board?
Mahalo,
