Haven't posted any pics of my finds for awhile so here's a few things that have followed me home this year:

Letter opener and flicker key chain

1942 Magazine sent home from a serviceman to his honey. Small souvenir plate.

Vintage Matson lighter and Pacific Far East Lines 1970's ashtray

Found a bag of these new bookmarks which have a strip of real tapa on one side and the story of tapa on the other. Each tapa piece is different and I have plenty so if you would like to trade for swizzles or matchbooks I don't have, we can do a traderoo. P M me.

Large moai mug from the Fireside restaurant in Wisconsin

PNG carving

Closeup of head

Vintage platter with bamboo pattern

I will probably never forget finding these Don the Beachcomber mugs because they were at a yard sale that was not really open until the next day but I saw them sitting on a porch rail as I drove by and from the street I went "WHOA, those are about to be mine!" I talked the lady into calling her husband who wasn't there in order to get a price quote. I had never seen that mug in person before then. The tiki on the right is not a mug but a vintage wall pocket.

Finally ran across a couple of old restaurant menus in the wild!
Both from the Dobbs House Luau, one is a dinner menu, the other a drink menu. Look at those prices!

Not sure which location these came from. I think they may date from the early 1960's.

It is interesting to note the top of the drink menu says:
"THESE FAMOUS DRINKS CAN BE SERVED ONLY IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN RUM OR LOCKER HERE"

I'd love to have my own bottles of rum stashed all over town. Sorta like an urban Jack Sparrow would I be Yarrrrrr.

They actually are legal to own in the United States, but many of them are in museums. The law states that it is not legal to deal in living organs and tissue. The shrunken head falls into the artifact category,so it is a grey area. This one came back from South America in the 50's from a service member. It was then given as a gift about 10 years ago to the person that I acquired it from. When closely inspected, you can see eyelashes, whiskers above the lips, hairs in the nostrils and other fine details.

Picked out of a basketful of matchbooks on Main street in Ventura on our recent trip to the Hong Kong Inn.

The "Quarterdeck Seafood and Grog was in Oxnard and Lahaina. I have not been able to find any info on this establishment.
The TV's San Francisco/Emeryville matchbook was in such good condition I thought it must be a repro or else the locations were alive and well. Then I noticed the lack of tel.area codes. The address also reflects the "old" S.F. location which pretty much thrived for forty years.
The Scottsdale "menehune" matchbook was ratty and the guts are gone. I grabbed it up anyway cuz the graphics are cool.
Cheers

These are indeed rare, and not to diminish the find, but I personally cannot warm to these later versions of the Don mug. Call me racist, but the pudgy almond-eyed Asian face just seems so wrong, compared to the youthful beach boy look of the original:

To wit, neither one of them is any more "authentic" than the other as a depiction of the man, as they hail from the later, Getty Corp-owned phase of the chain.

That Dobbs Luau menu is great, note that the cocktails are all (x-ept the fog cutter) served in Trader Vic's-originated drinking vessels.

This week's stuff:

A couple Maori masks and a Hawaiian Ku:

I was at Goodwill looking for a holiday tux, and I couldn't resist the 4 pack of Accoutrements soon to be vintage mugs. The other one is a Lono Alli's mug. The guy who sold it to me said he had 50 tiki mugs for sale last month, all for only $5 each, and that was the last one he had. I guess I slept in that day and missed it all...

Chile Moai coaster:

Matchbooks:

I finally got the yellow Bali Hai one!

Hawaii license plate turned into a journal and an Elvis Blue Hawaii doll:

Buzzy Out!

okay, here's the latest finds - picked up 2 JPco. 3 tiki faced bucket mugs. I also scored this Louie "B" volcano tiki bowl - it's huge. Could not find either of these on ooga-mooga. Found the tiki bowl without the volcano, though. Didn't know Jpco. made bucket mugs like these....
