I went to a tiki yard sale the other weekend that nearly made me cry. So much good stuff. Picked up these salt and pepper shakers from Kings Island, Moai, Amway Tonga Soap and a carved Marquesan style tiki that on the back said it was carved by Rene Pailloux in Tahiti for the Tahitian Lanai. And got a large framed Art forms of the Pacific by Miguel Covarrubias. I really need a big piece to tie my tiki room together and this is perfect! And of course books to add to the Bibliotiki.

What a bunch of great finds! SO jealous of those of you who have such things as 'tiki yard sales'
available to them!
Could you possibly post a closeup of the piece that was carved for the Tahitian Lanai? Thank you.

You never know where you're going to make a great tiki find; I found two of my favorite mugs at an Amish swap meet in the Southern Tier of Upstate New York.

Decent haul recently. Seemed like every garage sale we stepped into had something tiki! Also a few non-tiki mid-century pieces in the shot, these are for elsewhere in the house. But the whole day worked like magic. For instance: we found a bare Japanese float at one stop, and then a vintage spool of jute from the Orient at the next!

and yet another variation, the best of both worlds two tone version:

I did a little shopping and trading at Oasis and added a few more Maori pieces to the collection:

Getting pretty close to having a "Maori Room" at the estate now...

Pair of Polyarts in Hapawood

and some matchbooks

I felt real lazy this weekend so I didn't do much hunting. Grabbed these:

Treasure Craft coconut mug:

Some Aloha Joe's and Trader Vic's matchbooks I didn't have yet:

Buzzy, you must have a huge collection with all your finds
do you display it at home? or find it filling up boxes like I did?

Kinda both...I display everything I keep, until I decide to sell it. Then usually once a year before Tiki Oasis, I walk through my house and start grabbing stuff I don't want anymore and sell it. It was a good year for collecting this year, not so good for resale. I probably kept over 70% of what I bought this year. Usually I keep about 10% of what I find each year.

Buzzy Out!

I was going to ask $8 for it. If that's not gouging, I can bring it to the next International Tiki Market place at Don's in Sunset/Huntington Beach on Sept 7, where I and many others will be vending from 11 to 4pm.

Found these wooden candle holders this weekend. Couldn't decide if they were Tiki or Tribal. Opinions?

Great find Hang10tiki! I quite fancy some tiki bookends...
Buzzy always gets great finds, jealous grrr...

Anyway, being in the UK, I enjoy what I can get, my latest finds:

The set of 30 Hula Honeys postcards could be fun, if framed they should be about 4ft by 3ft.

The fish float is a mini one but my first

There have a been a few posts about a Backscratcher cocktail - when I saw one I thought it'd be fun to have one for if I make it as a punch or to scratch my back when bumming around I'm pretty sure that's an either or situation...?

With the spoon (tiki or not? Im thinking mayan), 2 spoon/fork sets & backscratcher I have wall hanging items for a future room...

My main reason for posting is:

The rum is for sizing, both the mug & club were off ebay.

The club is my new baby! The shell eyes really match it to another maori carving I have. Surprisingly light but well weighted if you swing it, I'll replace the string with something a little more 'distressed'. My apologies to the person I outbid if they see this, I wish we could share it!

The mug, while not exactly rare, is something I have coveted for a while & was pleased to snag. Good fun!

Scored this crazy folk art tiki picture at an estate sale..... it's solid black glass that has been etched and then painted white in the etched areas. Frame is made of wood. I seem to recall seeing something like this a long time ago but can't recall. This may just be a one-off. Anyway, i'm going to restore it and keep it.

AdOrAdam- thanks, it's funny how clean it is. Nice score yourself.

New one for me
I've never seen this version before.
