A bit of silliness I found at an estate sale today. Tonga after shower lotion! From 1967, with the original boxes. Fairly cheesy, but being two years older than me, I figured I'd pick them up. What I can't figure out is why in the world he kept them around, they being empty, and with the boxes. The person manning the register thought I was nuts for buying them.

I saw a lot of em while on a “WestPac” tour in the 60’s. They were from the Philippine’s and most souvenir stores had them for sale.
There’s a similar pair on display close to the hostess station at the top of the stairs at the Bali Hai -San Diego.
Don’t know what they were used for

Not silly or cheesy but awesome. You're not nuts, you're very lucky.

I agree with Sweet Daddy Tiki---these are great! Thanks for sharing the picture.
I am pretty sure there was a matching soap on a rope that went with those. I was trying to find the image I saved (I missed out on buying it) but it escapes me now. Really cool and different find.

I'm new to serious collecting, so I wasn't sure what others would think. I thought they were neat in that the had the boxes still, were two years older than myself, and were an odd item to have survived. Nice to see my instincts were good. *grin* If any one has any more information I'd be glad to here more about them.

New to serious collecting?

Here is my advice...collect what you love and what catches your eye.

DO NOT let ANYONE tell you what you found is not tiki enough for your collection or your home bar (if you have or plan on building one) and never care what anyone else thinks. EVER.Collect what you love and you will love your collection and that is really all that matters

Hope you keep sharing what you find!

I believe these are part of an Amway line that included Tonga Soap and Tonga Soap-on-a-rope (which you can find in the Book of Tiki)

The design is based on the classic Paul Marshall Products mug…

...which came in all sorts of forms, from patio lights to Tiki torches…

So these are definitely part of the original mid-century Tiki craze, and a cool find. Someone obviously liked the design so much that they kept the empty bottle.

Yes--that's was one of the photos I was looking for of the soap!

I have never seen those torches in plastic...I have a pair also and have always thought they were cool!

Received this from my girlfriend for Christmas. It's a canvas print done by Colin Campbell, who was a Disney artist and did a lot of concept drawings for the Park.

and since she went to the one night only Special Event of the Tahitian Terrace, but could not secure the prop sign that wound up on ebay.... I made her a smaller one in the style of, versus identical.

We were both stoked!

Thanks for the info guys! That's awesome, I wouldn't have thought to look in the Book of Tiki. I seriously bought the three bottles on a lark. I thought they were kinda neat but I figured no one else would think anything of them. I guess I got my three dollars worth. Though my wife is going to kill me, because now I want the rest of the related items.

Cheers!
