I think you'd be barking up the wrong tree if you decide to wade through old Playboys looking for this set (Though there are undoubtably worse ways to fill your spare hours). I'm pretty sure that this pic comes from some cheesy 60's nylon/stag mag, though it's highly probable that the same photos appeared in a variety of mags. |

You're right Woody.

James, check the Book of Tiki, page 43.

I seem to recall seeing another picture, apparently from this same photo shoot, in which one of the ladies was pictured leaping into the pool. My guess is that the BOT picture, and the other one I remember seeing, were printed in Playboy at some point...?
Does this ring a bell, or am I hallucinating again?
Too many Navy Gorgs last night...

I recently caught this pic on eBay, so it struck me as a decent enough time to resurrect this enjoyable old thread...

Trader Woody : your photo-painting is from Richie Fahey, a great contemporary artist that paints over his photos with a 40's style.
Check out : www.richiefahey.com
There were a great article on him on juxtapoz magazine (photo issue)

Good call, Virani! That's the chap.
I thought the identity of the painter had been lost forever.

That Richie Fahey stuff is pretty cool. I particularly like his James Bond "Moonraker" cover:

I just won this auction on ebay for a print of the same Richie Fahey photo that you all were commenting on. This was it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3714265894&category=20143
I also won auctions for 2 other tiki related Fahey prints that I think are very cool:

I had been looking obsessively for prints of his art since seeing the Juxtapoz issue. I finally found this place selling prints of several of his pieces on ebay. You can best see them all by doing a search on Richie Fahey in both the titles and the descriptions since they don't include his name in the titles. I am sure that they will keep relisting the same prints as they are printed to order. You can order through their website, too, but the normal price is $40. The $24.88 initial bid price seems like a great deal. If anyone is curious, I'll post my thoughts of their quality when I receive the prints. I should also mention that the photo used for the Juxtapoz cover is one of the prints they are offering.

Randy Exotica,
I realise that your name means something quite different over there in the States, but from here in the UK, it seems that you are perfectly placed to comment on this topic.

I would love to read your thoughts on the posters when you receive them. I have also been a fan of his art ever since I saw it in Juxtapoze and am considering buying the shot of the girl exiting the pool.

Randy Exotica,
Following your lead, I purchased a poster for myself. I bought the one of the Hula dancer in front of the burning tiki.
Thanks for the tip on where to find these! I'm sure I'll be picking up more.
Mahalo,

Has anyone ever been here (I'm not asking if you went in)? Great photo op.
It's located somewhere on Hollywood Blvd.

No, but it was in an old issue of Tiki News. There used to be a Tiki Massage in Berkeley.
