Heaving caution to the wind, we decided to make our own Tiki Mug for the NW Tiki Crawl
this year. Which was probably foolish, since none of us really had any idea
what we were getting into. And given that - it came out surprisingly ok!
The mug, about 3/4 sculpted. I've carved a few things, but this was only my second sculpt.
Foolish optimism caused me to say "Sure!" when TikiMaxton asked if I thought I could swing a mug sculpt.
(My first project was a re-creation of TikiMaxton's head - which is a long and entirely unrelated story).
Craig (Melintur) working on greenware clean-up.
I didn't think to get a picture of TikiMaxton making the molds, so I'm just putting in a random image of him.
Sorry TikiMaxton.
Production line waiting for numbers...
To make a long story a little less long, with some expert advice on mold making,
and an extremely patient ceramacist, we got through it with actual days to spare.
The finished product - front -
- side -
- back -
For a first attempt, I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.
And of course - now we're hooked...

I like the blue glaze. Good choice. This must be one of the smaller species of tiki. Part of the prairie tiki family. Look at him, he hides below the grass.

If you imagine Maori Man in a striped jacket, with a straw hat and one of those
victorian era barker megaphones - its much much funnier.

Great Job Tikitronic. Can't wait to hear the whole story, while drinking from my new mug of course.

Cool. One day I wish to carve a mug and get it produced. I might be waiting a while as I have never carved anything...
Nice looking mug

Just ordered the mug. Great to have your first effort in my collection. I doubt it will be your last!

What a great mug!! I like the back of it because it looks like it has a 'tree-like' texture representin' the Pac. NW !!
I'll see everyone at the Castaway Cove tonight!!
