Agreed Mayor - live music adds so much to any environment. Have you been in touch with the Kowloon about playing there again? I'd be there in a second if you guys played the place.

IKEA has finally landed eh? Give me a heads up if you see the bamboo room divider you mentioned at the Kowloon. I'm slowly getting some ideas together for my future home bar, "The Krakatoa Room", and the divider sounds like it might serve me well.

No biggie on the Ho Kong man - you probably won't miss out on too much tiki. And Tiki Island is definitely in our future.

I will certainly let you know if they still have them, and if there is anything else that is usable for a tiki room there. They can surprise you. Swedish and South Pacific in one place sometimes.

As usual, I'm gigging the night of the next New England get together, so I won't be there.

This is some incentive to finally put my Tiki Band together and maybe eventually open for Waitiki at one of our get togethers! (it'd certainly be an honor)

I love that this thread is really catching on and we're forming something solid here!

I love it, too! For a while there, I was wondering why there weren't many people here from New England -- it's downright thrilling to see that you *are* there, and that you've found each other, and I hope to come out for a visit, sooner rather than later.

IKEA did in fact have a number of items that would look great in a tiki bar. The room divider of bamboo stalks is no longer there, but they have a more finished bamboo room divider. However, I can't find it on their website. They also have this coat stand:

and this footstool:

as well as a lot of rattan furniture and tropical looking plants. Go on a weekday though. It took us an hour to get from the highway to our parking spot.

Hey Granite looks like we'll miss ya again this round. I'm sure Saturdays stink with your gig schedule. Maybe we'll shoot for a Sunday for the next gathering. Are Sundays usually good for you?

Humuhumu we were just in the dormant stage of Tiki in NE. Now the awakening has begun... Finally! Of course you and any other TCers out there visiting the NE area are more than welcome to join us on trips.

SBiM - Nice finds at IKEA. Looks like I'll have to get up there sometime soon. Maybe I'll even take the preferred route through Lynnfield and Dedham:)

Thanks to Filslash for the tip!!!

There may be Tiki items at the actual gift shop but nothing online :0(

I've been there a bunch of times playing weddings but that was mainly before I became aware of all this stuff. It's a very cool museum. It always seemed more chock full of Chinese and Japanese (more "fine art" than native) and lots of New England nautical art.

Looking at that website link, it's clear that I missed the good stuff.(or as I said, it was before I was very aware of it)

I'm definitely going to go back and give it another look, thanks for the tip!

Hey guys,

I've got to downgrade this sat to a definate "Maybe". I've had a few things come up recently, so we'll see.

Also, thinking about sometime after the holidays (like mid to late Jan) for the tiki timex trip.

More on that as things develop.

Hopefully everything works out and I'll see you on saturday.

No prob Bargoyle. Hopefully you can still make it.

Regarding the Timex trip, I think it will work out nicely to have it after the holiday madness. I haven't even begun to even think about shopping yet and I know, in classic style, that'll I'll be running around during the last couple of weeks before xmas. So every second will count until then.

Pappy you still in man? Get out of the house while you still can:) I know a little one is coming for you soon... And believe me, they manage to make getting out a little difficult.

Well I'm still in. My wife needs to stay home with the kids (no sitter available that night) but a friend of mine is coming along so it's still me + 1. Fortunately for me he's agreed to drive too - hmm, looks like a scorpion bowl for 3 for 1 is in order.

Well work calls. Talk to everyone soon.

Still in. My wife might even come "to meet your new friends" but I wouldn't count on her either. She says she wants to go to the Hu Ke Lau if we ever go back there. See you Saturday, Johnman (and hopefully, Bargoyle)!

As I said earlier, I'll only be there in spirit since I have a gig, but I thought of you all today, as I took down my outdoor tiki bar for the Winter.

I hope to get some of you here next Summer! (I've got a whole year to stock the bar )

Have a great time at the Ho Kong, and drink a Mai-Tai in my honor!
