Are Tiki drinks too 'girlie'? Perhaps Modern Drunkard magazine thinks so...

As a proud Modern Drunkard subscriber, I can tell you that they do not look down upon tiki drinks. They don't look down upon girlie drinks either. For most of us modern drunkards, a drink is a drink, and as long as it gets you hammered, who cares what's in it or how it looks.

I know. They've run some good articles on Tiki before, like this one.

Girl Drink Drunk
Oh come on Ray. What about a Chocolate Choo Choo? It's a girl drink. Tastes like candy. Don't disappoint me Ray.

... in lieu of the booze... how 'bout a lude and some gatorade... electrolytes aid in recovery and the gatorade does come in tropical colors...
... save money... booze is too pricey anyway...

I've had acquaintences say this same thing about tiki drinks I've ordered. And then they procede to order up an "Early Times with Coke". Ugh.
Usually the "girlie drinks" comments end once they've had two and can't find their nose on their face.

Hey NOW!! There is NOTHING "girly" about a "Beachbum's Own", mixed at the Castaway Lounge by Doctor Z.!! Of that you can be certain!

Somehow I feel like you burly men are genetically profiling us "girlie" girls... go ahead and have that "girlie" drink, after all we do...

I think one needs to distinguish between a well made tiki drink (like those from Grog Log and Exotica- equal blend of sweet and sour) and the sugary, syrupy sweet cr@p served at too many so-called tiki bars (that does not include TV and Tiki Ti). Some of what I've tasted are no better than the chocolatini type drinks which really are girlie drinks. Even then, I know some guys that will occasionally have one, but they've got to expect some good-natured ribbing. Whatever floats your boat- but the opportunity to bust cajones cannot be passed up.

Dang, I love the art in MDM, especially when it mocks those that fear being seen with a girlie drink.

I subscribe to MD, as well. I think their tongue in cheek style is hilarious, but they do the research and print some good articles.
I don't like everything they advertise and promote like the Grey Kangeroo filter, which claims to filter garbage hooch and econo brands into some quality tipple. Very fratboy, and unappealing to me. I do understand that they have to build their publication up, and support their need to do so. I must be hard to subsidize a small magazine and applaud them in their efforts.
The biggest turn-on to me is Frank's battle against the MADD zealots and neo-prohibitionists. As someone in the Adult Beverage Trade, I agree 110% with him there. On a personal note, I am a former US Army Ranger, and I think Frank is, as well. That is unconfirmed, and I have never met him in person. I don't know if he is a Scroll or Tab Ranger, Airborne or Leg, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd? All I know is Rangers are a Brotherhood and we lead the way! On that note alone, he is my kinda guy. I do hope he forgets his challenge coin if I ever do see him as I don't drink cheap booze! If not, i will gladly buy him a round on me as he deserves it.
By the way, I did sport my new MD Fez at a Martini party at the Palms Casino last week-end. It was very dapper with my British Union red smoking jacket. Overall, I like Modern Drunkard quite a bit.

Funny, if the guy was a grown-up man wearing a Hawaiian shirt, or drinking out of a tiki-mug, instead of teenage Harry Potter, the photo would have no significance.
The most "girlie" drink I've ever had was probably the most Hawaiian cocktail I've ever had.
There I was, at the Sheraton in Maui, at Sunset, with a Hula Dancer performing, drinking a blended Pina Colada, complete with umbrella. Coconut & pineapple juice in a pineapple on the shore of Maui was pure bliss!
PS: Aren't "girlie" drinks "Cooler" drinks - or wine with salad, with dressing on the side?

Snoop Dog apparently likes his "girlie" tiki drinks, complete with umbrella and probably swizzle.
