I started to hijack a thread for favorite signed bands (tiki, rockabilly, surf music, etc.) but I know so many people with unsigned bands I thought I'd start a new one highlighting some of my friend's bands that you may not have heard of.
MySpace has a great feature for bands to post their music so you can hear them, see where they're playing and a way to contact band members. I think it's perfect for bands that don't have a website.
