The info that I have been hearing over the past few years about Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart is that he is now in his early 60s and suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. Not a good thing for anybody to be going through.
If you want to read a really great book about Captian Beefheart please check out the one written by his guitarist Zoot Horn Rollo (aka Bill Harkleroad) who was in the band during those peak years from 'Trout Mask Replica' into the early 70s. The book is called 'Lunar Notes' and it's pretty amazing. I would recommend to any Beefheart fan.
