I couldn't resist posting this...
Some wit hath put together exerpts from the original spoof 'Casino Royale' (1967)
and made them look like a trailer for a modern, "serious" Bond movie!
It gives you a taste of what Niven might have been like as Bond, and a perspective on what a self-parody the so-called "serious" Bonds are anyway.

That link just put me on their front page, this is probably what you mean;

David Niven is cool, but I still say Peter Sellers is the best Bond of all. The original 1967 Casino Royale works great during his segment. He has the smirk, the quips, the offbeat glasses, and looks great in a tux. And he has some great moves, action is his middle name. Screw the Pink Panther movies, he should have done a spy movie series!

Hey thanks for the YouTube link folks...that was thoroughly enjoyable.
=======================================================
It is time to start getting excited about Bond 22, due out on November 7th 2008

BOND 22 INTEL
As MI6 first reported back in October, the Bond 22 production team were planning to film some sequences at Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) in Italy. At the time, details were sketchy. A well researched report by a German news outlet confirmed new details of the Italian shooting schedule for Daniel Craig's second James Bond outing. At the end of last year, writer Paul Haggis spent the final few days of his Bond 22 script-writing exercise at Lake Garda, and the atmosphere must have rubbed off as nearby locations feature in the story. The director of tourism of the region, Marco Girardi, confirmed that the Bond 22 film crew will visit the Lake Garda region for ten days at the end of April. Filming is reported to focus on the area around the shores of the famous lake.
Action will take place along the narrow streets and winding roads around the lake in the villages of Torbole, Limone sul Garda, and Tremosine. MI6 understands the scenes filmed at these locations will feature early in the movie. The production team visited the Stelvio pass in the Italian Alps back in August to recce for a possible car chase, reported to feature the Aston Martin DBS versus the new Ford GT 40. Scenes for Bond 22 will be filmed in Panama in the middle of February in a colonial district of its capital city. The filming will take place at two sites in the old quarter ("El Casco Antiguo") of Panama City, where the National Institute of Culture and some private buildings will be used. The shooting will last almost one week and it will take place mainly in the afternoon and evening, said Ariel Espino, the director of the Office of the Casco Antiguo. Espino met the last month with the chief location scout from Eon Productions. "We offered full collaboration to him, to help them to handle of the traffic, to isolate the area from automobiles and people", said Espino. He hopes the film will attract tourists from around the world to the area. According to reports, it is understood that more filming will take place in the province of Colón, north of the capital city. 700 Panamanian extras will be needed for the shoot. Back in December, MI6 reported that casting for extras in the film would take at the Teatro la Quadra. Four years ago, former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan filmed scenes for "The Tailor of Panama" in the old quarter, which has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. MI6 has learned that filming for Bond 22 is to take place at Farnborough Aerodrome in the south of England. According to witnesses, an airport scene is to be shot there and a lot of the sign posts have been removed to make it appear that the location is that of a different country. Filming is scheduled to start on February 8th and is to take place in the evening and through night shoots. Stunts are apparently being rehearsed on location. On Daniel Craig's debut 007 movie "Casino Royale", the runway at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey doubled for Miami International Airport.

INTERVIEW WITH DANIEL CRAIG
Whilst on a rare day off from production on the 22nd James Bond film to do PR for his small budget project "Flashbacks of a Fool" - which he filmed last year - Daniel Craig spoke briefly to Rotten Tomatoes about the upcoming 007 adventure. "It carries on from where the last one stopped," Craig told RT, "We set up in the last one that there's this organisation that is destabilising the world's economy because they want to take it over, and that's his job now, to go out and stop them." Casting news has recently revealed a potential villain in Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly star, Mathieu Almaric. "I'm over the moon with his casting," Craig told RT, "I met him very briefly on Munich but I didn't do any scenes with him. Now I've got to know him on Bond and I saw the Schnabel movie and thought it was amazing." On the suggestion that he was the Algerian boyfriend of Vesper Lynd, Eva Green's character in Casino Royale, RT again saw the wry smile as Craig hinted, "there is a connection there, yes..." Is the challenge lessened this time around? "I don't think you can say there's ever less pressure when you make a $200 million movie," Craig told RT, "I think the pressure is plain to see. We've got to make it as good if not better than the last one, and that's the thing that matters. I'm no less nervous than I was but I'm very happy with what we've put together for this one. The fact that Marc Forster's come in to direct it just makes my job a lot easier. He's taken care of a lot of stuff that I just don't have to think about and I'm just getting on with acting." And, he says, the pressure of taking on the mantle of James Bond gets no easier the second time out of the gate. "I don't know if I'll ever feel comfortable with it," he said, "I mean, it's James Bond. I don't know if I'll ever get to that place and get Zen about it; it's not that kind of role. But I'm enjoying what we've shot so far and I'm planning to enjoy as much as I can of this filming process. Because, otherwise, why do it?"

I'm very often thinking of Bond music, particularly Barry's. Right now I'm listening to "The Living Daylights", his last, and for me one of his best, scores for the franchise (the CD's bonus tracks are splendid additions beyond the original vinyl release).

Wanted to offer something to this great thread too, and so, as a long-time Barry / Bond film soundtrack collector, I thought I might share the sequence-list of a custom compilation I put together back in mid-2"007", that I call "Big Bond":

1. Into Miami (solo edit) - Goldfinger - J. Barry
2. The World Is Not Enough (Main Title) - Garbage / D. Arnold
3. James Bond Theme (imo THE coolest version, from 'The Music Of John Barry' CD)
4. Search For Vulcan - Thunderball - J. Barry
5. Fight At Kobe Dock / Helga - You Only Live Twice - J. Barry
6. Goldfinger (ost Theme Instrumental) - J. Barry
7. Man Overboard (solo edit) - From Russia With Love - J. Barry
8. A Pleasant Drive in St. Petersburg - Goldeneye - E. Serra
9. Journey To Blofeld's Hideaway (opening edit) - OHMSS - J. Barry
10. Thunderball (ost Theme Instrumental) - J. Barry
11. 007 And Counting - Diamonds Are Forever - J. Barry
12. Chateau Fight - Thunderball - J. Barry
13. Mountains And Sunsets - You Only Live Twice - J. Barry
14. Bond Is Back In Action - Goldfinger - J. Barry
15. Diamonds Are Forever (ost Theme Instrumental) - J. Barry
16. Bond Smells A Rat - Diamonds Are Forever - J. Barry
17. Oddjob's Pressing Engagement - Goldfinger - J. Barry
18. A Drop In The Ocean - You Only Live Twice - J. Barry
19. You Only Live Twice (Main Title) - Nancy Sinatra / J. Barry
20. Goldeneye Overture - E. Serra
21. Mr. KissKiss-BangBang - Thunderball - J. Barry

I experimented with the sequencing for a while, and this works pretty well. It's meant to sound "big" almost in a big band sort of way (though there are a few unabashed action sequences), and capture the lush feeling and unique majesty (mostly Barry's) that nicely distills the Bond experience to me. Not a substitute for specific film score listening, just a notion to try to bring a spectre, er, spectrum of The Bond Sound together...

If you've got all the soundtracks it's a fairly quick compilation to put together. Anyone curious about how I chose to "edit" those tracks indicated as such (simply to capture a portion of the music that was preceded or followed by a passage that didn't blend well with the overall mix), I'll be glad to email you those three MP3s I modified.

Glad to know so many like-minded agents in the TC network.

Doesn't get much bigger than kicking things off with "Into Miami" from Goldfinger. (Makes for a great launch on a Sunset Blvd cruise out to the beach...)

Don't know what you mean by "song list", JohnnyT, unless you're curious about what Bond main title vocals I may have? Happy to share any info I can, provided you've got "Eyes Only" Clearance, of course...

It's been awhile since I've been here. Work and life itself have kept me busy. I am so excited about Quantum of Solace. That definitely heightened even more when I saw the casting of the Bond girls, Gemma and Olga. I really love Olga. Wow!

Some recent news on the filming of Quantum Of Solace, the next 007 movie.
=========================================================================

LAKE GARDA, Italy, April 24, 2008
(AP) Officials in the Italian resort of Lake Garda say a stuntman was gravely injured in a car crash while filming the new James Bond movie.

A spokesman for the northern town of Limone sul, Garda, says the stuntman suffered serious head injuries when he and another stuntman crashed during a car chase sequence on a winding lakeside road.

The spokesman says the stuntman underwent surgery at a hospital in nearby Verona. He said the second stuntman was slightly injured.

The accident occurred on the last day of filming at the lake on Wednesday. It is the second accident on the Italian set of "Quantum of Solace." An Aston Martin went off the road Saturday and plunged into the lake. Producers said the driver suffered minor injuries.

To celebrate the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, the Imperial War Museum has opened a new exhibition charting the creation and legacy of James Bond...

"For Your Eyes Only" Exhibit Opens
22nd April 2008

"For Your Eyes Only - Ian Fleming and James Bond" - 17 April 2008 – 1 March 2009
To celebrate the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, Imperial War Museum London is producing the first major exhibition devoted to the life and work of the man who created the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond. Featuring fascinating material, much on public display for the first time, For Your Eyes Only will look at the author and his fictional character in their historical context and examine how much of the Bond novels were imaginary and how far they were based on real people and events. This exhibition will explore the early life of Ian Fleming, his wartime career and work as a journalist and travel writer and how, as an author, he drew upon his own experiences to create the iconic character of James Bond that continues to have global appeal.

On display will be rare material including Fleming’s desk and chair from his Jamaican home Goldeneye, where he wrote all of the Bond novels; a map of the Mercury News Network established by Ian Fleming in the 1950s showing where all Sunday Times foreign correspondents were based; the jacket worn by Fleming on the Dieppe Raid of 1942; a selection of annotated Bond manuscripts; the Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver presented to Fleming by the Colt company in 1964; the manuscript for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a working model of an Aston Martin DB5 made for HRH Prince Andrew in 1966, complete with gadgets from the films Thunderball and Goldfinger.

The ‘blood-splattered’ shirt worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale will be displayed for the first time along with prototypes for Rosa Klebb’s flick knife shoes in From Russia with Love; Halle Berry’s bikini from Die Another Day and Goldfinger’s golf shoes which have been lent by the EON Productions’ archive.

For Your Eyes Only will show how Fleming’s wartime experiences informed the Bond plots and inspired many of the iconic heroes and villains, such as M and Goldfinger, and how the Cold War, a war of spies and technology, provided the stage in which Bond could operate.

The exhibition will examine to what extent the books and films reflect the reality of the Cold War and life in post-war Britain and how far they were a product of Fleming’s prodigious imagination. It will conclude with Fleming’s legacy, exploring how one man’s idea generated an entire industry, not only books and films, but also parodies, toys, games and clothes. Over fifty years after his first appearance in print, James Bond continues to exert a grip on the global imagination and Fleming remains a classic writer of his generation.

The official book to accompany the Imperial War Museum exhibition For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond will be published by Bloomsbury in April 2008. Written by the bestselling author of Costa shortlisted Agent Zigzag, Ben Macintyre, and full of lavish photography, this book is the perfect celebration of Ian Fleming and his remarkable creation, James Bond.

For You Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond is sponsored by Fleming Family & Partners. The exhibition is part of the Ian Fleming Centenary celebrations.
